I screamed and sat up while breathing hard, I quickly whipped away the sweat that had formed on my forehead,

“It was just a dream…” I murmured,

“Ayame! What’s wrong?!” Rina demanded as she came running into my house, I waved her off and got to my feet,

“I just had a bad dream. Nothing to worry about.” She sighed,

“Okaa-san wants you to meet her in ten minutes.” I nodded,

“Hai hai.” She gave me a goodbye wave before leaving. I sighed and slipped on my shoes, then I slipped on a white shirt that came up to my belly button. I then put on my mask; I had replaced the dark blue one for a white one so I could blend into the now. I slipped on my white short shorts, you may think I’d get cold but you adjust quite quickly. To complete my outfit I slipped on all the netting I usually wear, a strip on my right arm that went from just above my wrist to just past my elbow and some on my left leg, I then put my kunai pouch on my right leg. I then fastened my leaf village headband around my waist. I sighed in content; I then looked at myself in the ice mirror that I had made. I scanned myself over, I’ve changed quite a lot if you ask me, I let my hair grow a little longer, I’ve also grown taller and filled out.

I gasped as I remembered something,

“Oh katana’s, come out come out wherever you are!” I sung as I looked around the small room. I eventually found them so I breathed a sigh of relief. I looked over my shoulder to take a glimpse of the grey tattoo I had gotten on my hip, all ninja of this village must get one of these tattoo’s. It’s nothing much, just three simple snowflakes. Its meant to represent individuality, each snowflake is different, each person is different. That’s the message that their trying to send. I sighed once again and slipped on my hoodie, put on my katana’s and raced out of my room.

I looked back and chuckled at the small tepee like house, mine was the smallest since I’m living alone, most people have children or husbands to look after. I giggled and raced past the campfire,

“Ohaio Ayame-chan!” The elders greeted, I smiled at them,

“Ohaio!” I replied quickly before I ran past them, I grimaced as I saw Kiara waiting patiently by the frozen lake,

“Gomen gomen!” I apologised quickly, she laughed and waved me off,

“Think nothing of it Ayame. We’ll be hunting by ourselves today. Rina’s got a small job to do.” I nodded,

“Hai. So what are we going to hunt today?” I asked, “Bear, fish, fox?” I asked, Kiara laughed,

“So eager.” I shrugged,

“I just want everyone to eat tonight, that’s all.” Kiara nodded,

“Hai. Because you’ve been such a good student I’ll let you lead.” I grinned happily,

“Arigato.”

“Ok. Let’s go.” I nodded,

“Hai.” I then shot off, Kiara followed close behind me. It was a silent trip, the only noise was our feet hitting the snow. I stopped abruptly and dropped low, I heard Kiara do the same. The bear growled and stood on its Hine-legs. I scanned the tree’s trying to find any other’s. I wave of guilt hit me as I saw three cubs emerge from the forest, the bear, who I guessed was their mother, returned to her normal stance and went to meet them. I turned to Kiara and shook my head,

“Are you sure?” She whispered, “This could be all we find today, do you want to take that risk?” I turned back to the bears,

“I’m sure. If we kill the bear then we have to kill the cubs too, something that is against the rules of the village.” Kiara smiled and nodded,
