It felt really good to sit down with Maggie and Cam's family and talk. It had felt like forever since we had done that, and in those precious moments that I held close to me, I truly felt like I was a part of a real family.

We had all sat on the couches and recounted what had happened with school and some funny things we had seen while they had been gone. By the time we had all finished catching up the sun had started to set so we all moved our little party into the kitchen to start making dinner.

I was on sauce duty, Maggie was watching the pasta so it wouldn't over cook and Cam was setting the table with plates and utensils.

Elizabeth was responsible for making the salad and some spiced shrimp and Dave was standing beside his wife looking absolutely lost. Every time I caught his expression I had to bite my lip to hold back my giggles. Dave was such a knowledgeable guy that when something so simple as leaves and Caesar made his brow furrow with confusion, it was oddly comical.

"Comin' through" A voice warned from behind me before Cam was suddenly wedged between Maggie and I, his body extended to get the glass dishes out of the cupboard above the stove. I jumped slightly when I felt his hand run up my jean covered backside, his hand teasingly pinching my ass before he pulled out the dishes he needed.

I could tell that my cheeks were properly bright red. I instinctively glanced at Elizabeth and Dave. When I saw that there heads were bent close together and they were conversing with light smiles I couldn't help but feel slightly relieved.

I definitely did not want to explain to Dave or Elizabeth why Cam was touching me like I was his girlfriend. I shot him a discreet glare before I elbowed him in the stomach, warning him silently that what he was doing was very risky.

He shot me a wink and one of those arrogant smirks before he turned, carrying the pile of bowls and setting them on the table. I scowled at his back just like Maggie was, before turning back to stir my special sauce, so it wouldn't burn.

"I swear he's adopted. It is scientifically impossible for my parents to have given birth to that big of a jerk" She grumbled under her breath. I couldn't help but laugh at her annoyed tone, but her words cut me deep inside. The hatred she had for her brother was clear in her tone and it only reminded me how much I was betraying my best friend by going behind her back.

When everything was finally finished we had all carried over the large bowls filled with the pasta, sauce and salad, before we all sat down. Dave sat at the head of the table with Elizabeth sitting to his left, Cam to his right. I was seated next to Cam and Maggie was seated beside her mom, directly across from me.

We all eagerly dug into the shrimp pasta, the creaminess of my pasta mixing well with the salty spices of the shrimp. We all made idle chatter when suddenly Cam turned to me a smirk quirking up his lips.

"So Katie, how was your first time in Detention today? Did you do anything...special?" He asked, ignoring the glare I was sending him.

Elizabeth and Dave both looked up at me in shock. "Detention? Katie sweetheart what happened that landed you in detention?" Elizabeth asked, leaning closer over the table.

I shot another annoyed look at Cam's face before I turned to look at Dave and Elizabeth. "Nothing serious that you need to worry about. I was just daydreaming in class and I got caught. The teacher told me to answer a question and I couldn't, because I wasn’t listening. So she sent me to detention." I shrugged, easily lying to also cover for Maggie, seeing as how she was the reason I got sent to detention in the first place.

Maggie discreetly shot me an apologetic smile while she twirled the end of her fork in a pile of pasta. Dave frowned before popping another shrimp into his mouth. "That's a little harsh for not paying attention don't you think?" Dave asked around a mouthful of shrimp, looking at his wife when she scolded him for eating with his mouth full.

Before Elizabeth turned to me and nodded in agreement. "It was probably just her time of month that’s all." I stated brushing off their questioning looks. Both Cam and Dave placed their hands over their ears and proceed to chant how they didn't need to hear that.

I couldn't help but giggle when Elizabeth smacked Dave's arm non to lightly. "David! act your age!" Elizabeth scolded, a small smile tugging at the edge of her lips, ruining her attempt at looking stern.

I suddenly looked at Cam and felt a plan snap into action in my head. "Oh I completely forgot to ask, after all you were so kind to bring up my detention Cam, you must be dying to tell everyone how your detention went as well." I smirked, seeing his grin disappear and turn into a glare.

I couldn't help but quirk my eyebrow in a challenge as both Dave and Elizabeth cried in outrage at this little piece of news.

"Cameron! What did you do to get in detention?" Dave asked angrily. Cam broke eye contact and turned to meet the disapproving looks from his parents.

"I...I put pins on my teacher's chair" He breathed, slumping in his seat, knowing he was going to get yelled at.

"Cameron!" Elizabeth cried in outrage. "In my defense that teacher was an asshole and I didn't get sent to detention because he found out it was me. I laughed when he shot out of his seat and he automatically accused me of doing it."

"But you did it, you idiot" Maggie sighed, looking bored. "Yeah I know, but the teacher didn't know that, he just pointed a finger at me. So...like the great actor I am." He smirked, brushing his shoulders off in a cool way, making me roll my eyes.

"I told him that he was falsely accusing me and that I could sue him for defamation of character and for falsely accusing me." He smirked. "He didn't respond well to my threat and sent me to detention." Cam shrugged, twirling a bunch of pasta around his fork, before bringing up to his mouth and eating it. “Careful now Cam, your over inflated ego is rearing its big ugly head. One of these days it just might swallow yours.” Maggie sneered as she glared at Cam.

"Maggie don’t say things like that to your brother and Cameron, that was actually…pretty smooth.” Dave chuckled, knocking fists with Cam. “David!" Elizabeth shouted hitting Dave once more on the arm, this time with a little more power.

Dave jumped before he shot Elizabeth a sheepish smile his expression changing to one of mock anger as he looked at Cam. "I mean-that was not nice of you Cameron and I expect this behavior to stop. I don't want to hear again that you ended up in detention. Do you hear me?" He pretended to scold.

Cam chuckled softly before nodding. "Yeah I can definitely make sure that you don't hear anything anymore" He stated turning to shoot me a look that had me swallowing. His look warned me that he was going to get me back for ratting on him.

Oh crap! What have I gotten myself into now?
