Prologue
Allison sits up in bed quickly, gasping for breath. 3:02 A.M. Another nightmare. Just a nightmare. She reassures herself, looking around the room to verify that she's alone. She reaches for the phone and hits the first number on her speed dial.
Across town, Cody is startled from a peaceful slumber by a familiar ringtone. "Hey Al. Another nightmare?" He says after picking up on the third ring. Allison nods before realizing that he can't see her. "Yeah. You know I hate to wake you up but I just needed you," she replies almost too quietly for him to hear.
"It's okay. He can't get to you. And he certainly isn't going to hurt you. You know I wouldn't let him. Lay back down and I'll sing to you 'til you fall asleep," Cody said in an even tone.
Allison laid back down and took a deep breath as she heard Cody's melodic voice begin to come through the phone. She closed her eyes and slowly drifted back to sleep to her best friend's soft lullaby.
