For most people, dating is a game best played when lubricated with wine or simply a beer,

People sit down at a bar, talk together, laugh and then cheer,

~

That's how it goes, one approaches the other, a smile is offered and then there's some light chitter-chatter,

Before you know it, you're kissing, feeling lost within the other person so that nothing else matter,

~

If you're a lucky bastard, you get a one-night-stand where hopefully both of you will get your fill,

Otherwise you simply exchange your numbers at the bar and promise the other to call so you can go out together or merely just find a day to chill,

~

That's how dating goes these days, you get somewhat drunk together and your minds just interlink,

However, that game can get somewhat difficult to play when you're not really allowed to drink.

~

When alcohol is your worst enemy and you're out trying to make new friends,

And they ask you 'why aren't you drinking?' and you divulge your story, the fun kind of abruptly ends.

~

So you try and steer the conversation onto something else, you ask them questions about themselves to remove the pitiful mood that lies around you,

But it's inevitable that at one point you reach the subject of childhood and she will ask you; 'so how about you? What did you go through?'

~

Again, where others would normally throw themselves headfirst into a talk about their childhood grins, I find myself stunted,

As I always am when someone asks me about my past, when I get abhorrently confronted.

~

'Where did you grow up' and 'how is your relationship with your parents' are two very normal first date subjects,

But if I at all choose to dive into them (which I really don't), then I know that if we find ourselves going home, all I'll get is pity sex.

~

You go to the bar to get drunk and meet new people and exchange life stories - that's the game,

But to a recovering addict, alcoholic, and traumatized guy, the rules of the game makes it pretty hard to find a goddamn dame,

~

Still, I keep on playing, I try my luck and I hope that one day the game will change to my favor,

But at this point, I'd say I have more luck at finding a compatible opponent in my electrical shaver.
