Chapter 7

The first thing his eyes met was the moon. It made his blood surge hot through his veins, his muscles flex restlessly. His pupils dilated, his breathing became deeper. His canines suddenly felt heavier in his mouth, his strong top jaw braced against his bottom.

He snapped his head towards the ground, his body returning to it's calm state. Well, as calm as he could be in his situation.

He could feel his heart sinking slowly in his chest, like a wasp trapped in honey. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, his pulse throbbing in his neck. When he opened them, he found tears had formed a glass-like screen over his vision. He blinked them away furiously, and ignored them as they rolled down his cheeks.

His mind felt numb, a thousand different thoughts all blurring together into nothing. Three things stood clear in his mind.

Scarlet. Michelle. And something else.

He ran.
