Addie's POV:

3 months later...

I stumbled in the kitchen for a glass of water, only opening my eyes because I heard the front door open.

"Whoa there, you okay?" Cassie asked.

"Ugh," I groaned. "Alcohol, too much. How was the trip home?"

Cass and Renzo had been out for a few days, going back to visit some of Cassie's old coven while a friend got married.

"It was good. Who's here?" Cassie asked, frowning.

"Kora," I answered, taking a sip of my water to ease my hangover. God, we drank too much last night. "She's Rykan's human mate. She needed a little break from him. Needed to be around someone else that has been through the whole shock of discovering all this shit is real."

"Human?" Cassie asked, raising an eyebrow. "She's not human."

"What?" I frowned. "Yes she is, she said she is and she's definitely not a wolf."

"Addie, I'm serious, she's not a human. She's..." Cassie paused and frowned. "She's a witch but she's different. There's something different about her," she said, walking towards the front room where Kora was still passed out.

"Cass, Kaden scented her as a human when we found her," I said, following after her. I trusted Cassie but how could a girl not know she was human? "She said she was human."

"Really? Please explain this then," Cass said, gesturing to the front room.

I looked inside and my eyes widened. Every single piece of furniture, every book, everything not tethered to the ground was floating in the air, moving in a circle around Kora's sleeping form on the floor.

"What the fuck?" I muttered, frowning in confusion. "This doesn't make sense. All the young witches I've seen show their power early. How would she not know? I don't think she was lying. I don't think she's capable of lying, she's a sweetheart."

Kaden groaned and woke up. Oh, shit, he was on a couch flying about five feet above the ground right now.

"Kaden, don't mov-"

"Fuck!" He said, rolling over and falling to the floor with a loud thud. He frowned and stood up, smacking his head on the coffee table flying above him. "What the actual fuck? What's going on?" He asked, rubbing his head.

"Kora's a witch, apparently," I said, crossing my arms.

"Why didn't I smell it before?" Kaden frowned. "I do now but I didn't before. And she..." he trailed off, looking even more confused. "She smells different."

"That's because she's not just a witch," Cassie said, her eyes widening. "She's a hybrid."

"Hybrid?" I asked, looking between Cassie and Kaden. Kaden seemed just as astounded as Cassie was. "Why is this a big deal?"

"Because, Addie," Cassie said, still starting at Kora with wide eyes. She shook her head a little before looking at me. "Hybrids like her are one in a million. Literally, those are the stats. The genes don't mix well so most babies die very early on. Only a few of this kind of hybrid ever lived to birth and adult-hood and even if they do, they tend to have health problems."

Health problems. Kora had plenty of health problems. The amount of medication she had to take was concerning.

"What genes don't mix well?" I frowned in confusion. "We have plenty of mixed people here." It was true, we had with-wolves, fae-wolves, human wolves that couldn't shift because they didn't have enough of the werewolf gene. "And why would she keep it from us? She seemed totally honest about everything."

"We don't have one of her," Cassie said, shaking her head. "She's not part human. She's not human at all."

"That's why they took her," Kaden realized, his eyes going even wider. "They want to use her."

"Use her for what?" I asked.

Xander walked in and froze upon seeing everything floating. "Cass?" He asked, tilting his head to the side. Then his frown deepened. "What the fuck? Why does Kora smell not human anymore?"

Tess walked in from the backyard and nearly smacked into the couch. She dodged it and frowned, looking around the room. "Um, what's going on?" She asked, sniffing the air. "Why does Kora smell different?"

"Holy shit," Xander breathed, his eyes going wide. "She's not..." he looked over at Cassie. "Is she?"

"Okay for the love of God, someone explain to me what the fuck is happening," I sighed.

"Sorry," Cassie said, shaking her head. "I just... I didn't think I'd ever see one of her, I've only read about them. Addie, that girl holds more power in her little finger than ten of our best combined, maybe even more than that, actually. The last one that was alive was so powerful she was hunted down by the best from every species because she was too powerful and let it get to her head."

"This is dangerous," Kaden frowned. "Bloodstone pack somehow knows about her and are clearly trying to get her... She's in danger. Not just by Bloodstone, if the Elders catch wind of this..."

"Oh no, the Elders can't catch wind of this. They would exploit the hell out of her if they even kept her alive," Cassie said, shaking her head. "They wouldn't be able to stand having someone that much stronger than them."

"No they wouldn't," Kaden agreed. "Addie, Xander, our pack is in danger," he said, looking at me. "Our pack's going to be a target now that she's here. Damon is a power-hungry asshole, he's not going to stop trying to get her and if the Elders find out, we're really fucked."

"Kaden's right," Cassie nodded. "We're going to need some help."

I was going to ask more but then Kora yawned and groaned, gripping her head. She sat up, slowly opening her eyes with her face all scrunched up, probably with the same headache I was fighting after our night of drinking. I had a lot of questions for her so she'd have to get over that pretty quickly.

Suddenly everything fell to the floor and she squealed and jumped, eyes wide. "What the hell was that?" She asked, looking around the room. "Who did that?"

Her eyes were so innocent. Everything about her was innocent and sweet and as she stared at me in confusion I realized she wasn't hiding a damn thing. I could tell when people were lying and Kora was not a liar. She was as thrown off by the supernatural world as I was at first. That meant...

Oh God. That's why she didn't say anything. She didn't know. She wasn't lying. She just didn't know. She thought she was human.

Kora's cheeks started turning red as she noticed every single person in the room was staring at her with wide eyes. "Addie?" Kora asked, looking up at me with such innocent eyes. "What's going on?"

"Fuck," I muttered, shaking my head.

Shit somehow just got way more complicated.
