(QUICK AUTHORS NOTE: No hate to any Samantha's out there! I honestly just chose a random name.)

~Madeleine POV~

I walk around the school quad on nice Saturday morning.

Our school has this huge quad area with a nice garden with a bunch of little gazebos.

The garden is mostly made up of lillies. For some reason, our principal is obsessed with them...

I walk into one of the gazebos and lean on the wooden railing.

I look at the quad filled with a bunch of students enjoying their weekend.

"Boo!" A voice giggles behind me.

I turn my head to see Sam.

     "Oh! hey, Sam." I smile.

She walks next to me and leans on the railing.

We kinda just stand there in silence looking at friend groups laughing together and couples having picnics.

"I miss those days..." Sam says, breaking the silence.

I turn my head to her slightly.

"When we would go out... and laugh..."

Her eyes start to water.

She turns to me, tears flowing out of her eyes.

"What did I do wrong, Madeleine? Why- why did we break up?"

She runs into me and hugs me, her face pressing on my chest.

Oh, no... what am I supposed to do? I'm not the best at comforting people...

"H-hey, don't cry..." I say, patting her head awkwardly.

"It's my fault, isn't it? It's mine! Mine! Mine! Mine!" Sam wailes, hugging me tighter.

"What? N-no! Not at all! The break-up wasn't your fault at all!" I say, reassuringly.

Sam finally steps back.

Her face is all pink and her tear-filled eyes were all puffy.

"*Sniff* R-really?" She wipes her eyes.

"O-of course! Don't blame yourself for it!" I chuckle awkwardly.

Her sad face slowly formed a smile.

"Then can we start over?" She asks, trying to remove the puffiness of her eyes.

      "S-start over? Meaning..."

"Wanna go out with me again?" She asks, her face being completely happy now.

WHAT.
She's asking me out?! Oh, no. No, no, no, no, no, no... HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO TELL HER I'M GAY?!

"Uhm... well, you see..." I say rubbing my neck and avoiding eye contact.

"Do you have a girlfriend?" She asks.

"Huh? Oh, no, no, no, no!" I reply quickly.

     "Then, why not?"

"It's just... I need some... time." I reply.

     "For what?"

"I just... don't want to make you sad anymore..." I lie.

"But you won't! I'll be happy as your girlfriend!"

"Well, it didn't work last time, why would it work now?!" I snap at her.

She flinches back a bit, stunned that I yelled at her.

I'm stunned too... I never snap at people...

"I...I'm sorry, I-I have no idea why I did that!" I say, trying to get my cool back.

"No, no..." Sam interupps. "You're right..."

She runs out of the gazebo..

Great. I hate getting people upset. Now I feel guilty as fuck.

My stomach starts to feel queasy.

I always feel sick when I feel guilty. I should just go to my room and take a nap...

~Espresso POV~

I read my book and the small round table of the library.

Well, not really reading.

I can barely hear myself think because of Latte's giggling beside me.

I put down my book and look at her.

She's on her phone, reading something, taking short intermissions to type something.

"What are you doing?" I ask.

Latte shoves her phone to my face.

"The way my Almond texts is so cute! I swear, he's the one."

"Yeah, yeah... didn't you say that about your last boyfriend, too?" I tease.

Her face turns red.

"We don't talk about that cheater!" She says, embarrassed.

She looks close at her phone.

"You don't know anything of love! It's the feeling that makes you feel alive!"

'The feeling that makes you feel alive?'

Probably never felt it then.

"I better get going." I finally say.

     "Yeah, it's getting kinda late..."

We both go out of the library and wave our good-bye's as we go to our dorms.

It's about 4:00 P.M (or 16:00 for you U.K ppl😘) right now.

I unlock the door to my dorm.

The smell of muffins hits my face.

I look into the kitchen.

"Ah, Espresso! How are you? Care to be my taste-tester?" Madeline says, pulling out a fresh tray of muffins out of the oven.

"Well, I can't say no to free food." I say, grabbing a muffin from the tray.

It was warm and tasted of vanilla.

"What's with the sudden baking?" I ask.

"Oh," Madeleine says, putting down the tray. "I just bake when I'm upset."

     "Why are you upset?"

"No reason." Madeleine replies quickly. "U-um- Homecoming is coming up!"

"Sure is..." I say, sitting down.

"Are you going?" Madeleine says, trying to get away from the previous conversation.

"Doubt it, I don't have anyone to go with."

"Don't you have at least one friend?"

I shoot him a dirty look which makes him jump a bit.

"No, because not everyone can be as popular as you." I reply.

"Well..." Madeleine says, sitting down on the chair across mine. "That's where I come in!"

"Don't tell me your still on about that 'mission'." I roll my eyes.

"What? You think I won't be able to complete it?"

"Oh, I don't think. I know you won't complete it."

"Well, then!" Madeleine stands up. "Looks like this mission just became a challenge."

I chuckle.

      "What's so funny?" he asks.

"Why are you taking all this so seriously? It makes no sense."

"Well," Madeleine pauses to think. "It's just because I never met anyone like you."

He left the kitchen with a smile.
