Another Moment

One month and three weeks until Alex leaves. Kurtis is keeping count as if checking off days until the apocalypse comes. Alex- on the other hand- is also keeping count, but as if in seven weeks, his life will finally start.

They have seven weeks to spend as much time together.

Tonight, they're at Kurtis' house. His parents are very supportive of their son's sexuality. (his dad offered to put a big, gay pride flag up outside of their house to which Kurtis declined profusely).

His parents liked Kurtis' ex, Ruben and were even heartbroken along with Kurtis, when they broke up.

With Alex around, Ruben isn't even a thought. Mr. and Mrs. Hill love Alex and are rooting for the two boys. And they make that embarrassingly known.

Like when Alex joins them for dinner.

"Alex, darling, how are you?" Kurtis' mother, Diane asks, all smiles.

"Good! Thank you for inviting me, this looks amazing," he says in awe. Kurtis' father (or Mark), cooked a brilliant ribeye steak, delicious mashed potatoes, and roasted asparagus with the perfect amount of seasoning to them.

Mr. Hill smiled triumphantly, Alex earning brownie points. Kurtis smiles to himself before taking a bite of his mashed potatoes, he loves that his parents love Alex.

"Anytime, you know that," Diane gushes, and Alex does know that considering the fact that he eats with them once a week- every Sunday. Sunday is their family dinner night, and Alex is part of the family if you ask Mark and Diane.

But Alex always thanks them because that's the kind of person he is.

"Kurtis, did you tell Alex about our trip?" Mrs. Hill wonders.

Alex perks up and raises his eyebrows at Kurtis, "No, he did not mention a trip to me," Alex responds for the younger boy.

Kurtis wants to roll his eyes because he knows exactly where his mother is taking this conversation. "My family and I are going to London for Christmas," Kurtis explains.

"Oh wow! That's awesome," Alex speaks with excitement then he taps Kurtis' foot from under the table (since the time they sat down across from each other, Alex and Kurtis haven't stopped touching or grazing the other's feet).

"Why don't you join us," Mrs. Hill offers just as Kurtis knew she would. Not that he minds, but his parents have this amazing power called 'peer pressure' and they take advantage of it. Kurtis wouldn't want Alex to feel pressured into going.

"Oh, no, I couldn't impose on a family trip," Alex brushes the offer, (Kurtis also knew this was how Alex would respond).

Kurtis doesn't speak on the matter even though the trip would be a million times more fun with Alex there. But it's Alex's decision, so he doesn't want to add onto the peer pressure.

"You could never impose," Mark insists.

"We would love for you to join and Kurtis would have someone to... hang out with. It'll be a really great time," Diane adds.

Remember that rock Kurtis wanted to hide under? Yeah, he wishes he was under there now. Especially, after the way his mother said 'hang out'. She's so embarrassing.

Alex watches Kurtis for a moment, his eyebrows raised in question, asking him if he's okay with it. Of course Kurtis wants him to go, was he kidding? But Kurtis just shrugs. Again, it's up to Alex.

"I'd love to go," Alex agrees, and rubs his foot slowly up to Kurtis' leg, stops mid-calf and back down.

"You know, you can tell me if you really don't want to go," Kurtis tells Alex a couple hours later when they're finally alone in Kurtis' bedroom.

They're watching The Office on Kurtis' flatscreen TV, but it's more background noise than anything. They've both seen the entire series already.

Kurtis is leaning on Alex while he's leaning against Kurtis' headboard.

"Do you not want me to go?" Alex questions.

"No, I do," Kurtis rushes out. "I want you to go."

"Wow, you don't need to beg, I already said I'd go," Alex teases.

Kurtis' cheeks turn crimson up to his ears, "shut up, I was hardly begging." He pushes Alex's face away when he laughs.

"Ah, it's so easy to tease you, Kurtis. You know that?"

"Shush!" Kurtis exclaims, sinking lower in the bed to a laying position when Alex playfully attacks him, his hands going to the the smaller boy's sides. "Stooop!" Kurtis laughs that goofy laugh that Alex loves.

Alex's heart is racing just a fiercely as Kurtis' heart is pounding when they realize (at the same time) the compromising position they're in once Alex stops messing with Kurtis. Now, with hands on either side of Kurtis and neither of them joking around anymore, Alex searches the boy's eyes.

Kiss me, dammit! Kurtis screams at Alex in his head.

Do something! Kiss him, you fucking coward! Alex is screaming at himself in his own head.

But Alex rolls to the side, laying on his back with his hands folded on his stomach. You piece of shit, Alex thinks.

They're silent and uncomfortable. Kurtis speaks first, "I'm... gonna go take a shower," and he leaves his bedroom before Alex can reply.

Alex drags his hands over his face. Why the fuck can't he do it? Just kiss Kurtis, it's not a big deal.

But it is to him. Kissing Kurtis is a big deal because that changes things. Alex doesn't mean his sexuality, that's not the issue. The issue being; Alex is leaving. Should he even start anything with the younger boy? Would there be a point?

Alex isn't too sure of that answer, but he needs to either nut up or shut up before he loses Kurtis for good.
