I'D GIVE MY LIFE FOR YOU

(MISS SAIGON BASED CHAPTER)

Fun fact: this song was the one that gave me the idea of the book in general. If you, readers, have not listened to Miss Saigon, you must... though very problematic when created, the 2017 version was much more sensitive to yellow-face and all the problems Asian people have to go through in the industry.

Walking blindly with a cloth tied over her eyes and leading Jordan, who was also blinded by a cloth in turn, was hard enough, but walking into a small passage was even worse. Laura was hitting herself against the walls all the time and she was trying her best not to let Jordan hit the walls, holding her against her back as best as she could.

"Here's good enough," Lucas said. "Untie them, Bosco."

Bosco did just that, doing his best not to touch Jordan, but roughly pulling on the cloth over Laura's face. She yelped when her eyes seemed to have been pushed to the back of her head before Bosco pushed her forward; she only didn't hit the ground because Lucas held her up and glared half-heartedly at Bosco, who laughed relaxed.

"Where are we?" Jordan asked.

"Jordan, shush, please," Laura scolded.

"No, no, no," said Lucas, rolling his eyes. "I might be kidnapping you two, but I won't allow you to be rude to the child. As a mother, you should know that curiosity is an important part of growth."

Laura wanted to scream at him, push Jordan away from him and tell that he didn't even have the right to look at her daughter. But she didn't, she just coldly looked at him as she did her best not to attack him right there. If she did anything, Bosco would do something to her before she could take to steps towards Lucas.

"Now," Lucas said, joining his hands and looking away from Laura, turning to Jordan and smiling. "We are in a very faraway place from Katterdam, sweetie, in a farm. You said you like farms."

"I like pretty farms," she said, clearly indicating that the room they were in wasn't a pretty farm.

And Jordan was right.

They had been shoved into a big room, clearly under floor level since there were no windows and the only light was coming from the small pieces of candles that were still burning. The room had concrete walls and concrete floor and seemed to be used as some type of storage room, because there were sofa, tables and chair piled up every side of the room besides the five feet or so around the middle, very near the door. There was no colour on the walls or the floor and the room was cold enough to make Laura shiver and looked at Jordan in worry; would she get cold too?

Still, the tone she had used had been so unexpected that even Bosco laughed with Lucas this time.

"It really isn't," Lucas said. "Upstairs isn't either. Pekka doesn't have a good taste in farmhouses as he usually has in townhouses."

"How long does he intend to keep us?" Laura asked.

"He said he was on his way, so a few hours until you have an answer, beautiful," Lucas said. "Here's another candle," he said, shoving a full candle of the same thickness as her fist and almost a whole hand tall. "Burn it if all the others go dark. Careful not to die with all the wood here."

He was also right, most of the chairs and tables were made of wood and some parts of the sofas were as well. If fire started, they would die, if not from smoke inhalation, then by the fire itself and its hungry demeanour.
