Meg - I'm happy to be back, I've missed the place. Marsh House and Blackmoor just didn't feel right for me, now I feel I have finally returned home and I can't wait to say hi to the women! I heard Lathams back.
Janice - Yes and just wait until you see what she did to her hair!

Meg - And how is Vera?
Janice - Vera is acting very strangely. She is being very nice to the women and has even started typing classes with them

Vera is in the library with the women who are all busy typing
Vera is supervising Cheryl
Cheryl - I'm rubbish at this Miss Bennett!
Vera - Nonsense Cheryl! You're getting the hang of it nicely!

Vera - Yes it's true that you are not the fastest but you get a little faster each time you do it! Soon you will be excellent at it, practice makes perfect as they say!

Jenny is sitting on her sofa in her dressing gown as Ann emerges from the bedroom ready to go to work
Ann - Well it's time I was off
Jenny - I don't know how you can stand working in that place. Wentworth is bad enough, I've heard Blackmoor is ten times worse and with Ferguson there it must be even worse still
Ann - It's a tough place to work but it's a job. Anyway I am determined to bring in reforms there
Jenny - Good luck with that
Ann - What will you do today?

Ann - Well I'll see you later tonight...Listen Jen I really can't thank you enough for letting me stay here. I really didn't want to stay with Paul, his flat is too cramped, he needs his space
Jenny - I told you Ann it's no problem. I had a spare room sitting idle so you may as well use it, I can't think of anyone else I'd rather give it to
Ann - Yes well I'm still grateful. See you tonight
Jenny - Yes have a nice day
Ann - I'll try

Jenny picks up a whisky bottle and pours herself a drink

Meg is in the staff room as Vera walks in
Vera smiles with delight
Vera - Meg, it's good to see you back where you belong
Meg - Thank you, Vera. So I hear you're giving the women typing classes?
Vera smiles with pride
Vera - Yes and my girls are picking it up very quickly
Meg- Your girls eh?
Vera - Yes. It just goes to show they can do a lot if they apply themselves to it. They need encouragement that's all
Meg - I must say this change of heart is amazing Vera. I was trying for years to convince you to soften your attitude a bit
Vera - Well I got there in the end Meg...Anyway, I hear the truth came out about Ferguson, I bet that's a relief.
Meg - Yes it is....it doesn't bring Marty back though does it
Vera - No...
Meg - I hear they released Hartley too.
Vera - Yes thank heavens! That girl wouldn't have survived here for much longer, she simply hated the place. She reminded me a lot of Lynn Warner! I think it was a relief for all of us to see her walk free
