The Painter

Dressed all in white

She dances through the gray night

A paintbrush in her hand,

She colors the land

The painter, she knows

Just how to put on a show

Never needing a tune,

She dances, painting a field in full bloom

The painter, she knows

Just how the song on the wind goes

And in the gray night,

She dances, she’s the light

Dressed all in white,

She dances through the gray night

She colors the land

With the touch of her hand

The painter, she knows

Just the right way to show

Things she’s seen and dreamt

All in her first attempt

The painter, she flies

Cutting through the gray night

Nobody knows why she tries

To show people another side

Dressed all in white,

She pierces the gray night

What she touches, it changes

From gray, to a color brighter than flame

Dressed all in white

The painter’s blight

She bears the cross of having

To color the world with her heart

The painter, she smiles

Not stopping, not even for a while

She dances, pouring herself

The gray world is no more

The painter in white is now red

Lying on the floor, dead

Her fingers, they smear her final tear

Covering the last bit of gray

The painter, she died

But it’s all right

Because she’s left her mark

And the world will never again

Drown in a sea of gray
