LAMELO

I look at my dad completely annoyed.

"What do you want?" I asked.

"LaMelo, son. I don't think Joslyn is a good distraction for you, I mean, no distraction is good for you or your future!"

"Joslyn isn't a distraction!"

"Then why are you here, to play basketball?" My dad asked yelling at me.

I shake my head no.

"Speak to me, use your words!"

"No," I look down. "But I'll go play basketball right now!"

"You don't need to be in a relationship right now, you're way to young!"

I'm too young?

"I'm sixteen now dad, I'll be grown in two years!"

"Until you're your definition of "grown", you're gonna listen to me!" He gets the look in his eyes where it looks like he is going to mess me up if I say the wrong thing.

I just stay quiet.

"Melo, I know you like this girl a lot, son but you might have to break up with her." My dad says.

Is this guy serious?

He doesn't even understand.

I'm not distracted by my girlfriend, if anything, she helps me and she motivates me.

"I love and respect you dad, but I'm not doing that!"

"Excuse me?" My dad says shocked.

"I'm not breaking her heart... I'm not breaking my heart!" I look up at my dad.

"Your gonna have to choose, her or basketball!"

_____

JOSLYN

As I wait for LaMelo, I go on my phone laying down in my bed.

I play Subway Surfers and I hear my front door open.

LaMelo walks into my room and he looks kind of stressed about something.

"So, um my dad wants me to break up with you!" LaMelo says.

I laugh. "No way!"

"Dead ass ma, he was like she's a distraction!" LaMelo states while sitting next to me on my bed.

"Damn," I sigh.

"Don't worry, we are not going to break up for my dad."

I peck LaMelo's lips.

"My baby is so mother fucking fine!"

"I know right!" I giggle.

_____

The next day, LaMelo and I go to the movies.

We see Incredibles Two.

After the movie, we walk around the mall.

I see this cute promise ring.

LaMelo catches me looking at the rings.

"Those are nice, I've got two hundred on me right now, let's go see how much they cost!"

Before I have time to respond, LaMelo pulls me into the store.

He talks to a worker about the rings in the window and the worker walks with us to the front counter.

"Do you know your ring sizes?" They asked.

LaMelo nods his head yes, while I shake my head no.

"Here, let me size your finger!"

I give the worker my hand and they smile at me.

"The rings are thirty dollars in total, fifteen dollars each." The worker pulls out a bunch rings that look similar to the ones in the window.

"I have four colors, black, silver, white, and rose gold!" The workers says.

LaMelo puts his arm around me. "You pick,"

"I like the gold one," I speak.

"Me too!" LaMelo says. "Look at us, we are going to do this in the future too, watch!" LaMelo smiles at me.

"Bet," I giggle up at him.

LaMelo grabs my hand slipping the ring on my finger.

"We won't give up on us, we're halfway there!" LaMelo kisses my lips
