I lay on the bed, my stomach in knots. I should happy, it was my wedding day but I had this feeling deep I'm the pit of my stomach that something awful was about to happen. I tried closing my eyes and willing myself to sleep, but I couldn't. Mia was close to death and it felt wrong that we were having a wedding. How could I be happy when I knew Luc was suffering and his children would soon be orphans.
I had to do something - but I didn't know what.
Unable to stay a moment longer in bed, I got up and walked over to the window. It was noon and thick heavy curtains blocked out the pale winter sunlight. Outside, I could hear the birdsong and the gentle fluttering of their wings as they swooped over the rooftop. I hadn't seen sunlight since becoming a vampire. I edged nearer the curtain and with one finger I lifted its edge. A blinding beam of light filled my room and I winced, dropping the curtain and covering my eyes.
