A poem for you, from far away

It's easier loving you like this, here,
where the sun sets over the bamboo grove,
where the moon shimmers on the
water's edge, and evening slowly settles
among the trees,

here, with miles of empty land
between us, where I cannot touch you
and you cannot reach me on the phone

where I cannot hear your voice, except
vaguely, when I try to remember,
sweetly, when I can remember only the
soft parts of you, you are in the air here,
behind a smile, in the bamboo groves
and the moonlight falling on peepal
leaves, you are all the beautiful things
that make me think of you.

It's easier to love you like this,
when you are here only in thought
and I, a memory.
