"And that was the last we ever saw of her. After that, she was just... gone. Can't believe it's been that long, it feels like yesterday," Lucas finishes the story.

"Yeah, I mean, I bet. Wow," Max says.

"It's crazy, I know." Lucas sighs.

"It's crazy but... I really liked it," my sister speaks.

"Liked it?" Lucas asks in confusion.

"Yeah, well, I mean... I had a few issues," she replies and I raise an eyebrow.

"Issues?" the Sinclair boy asks again.

"Yeah, what do you mean, Max?" I ask in confusion.

"I just wish it had more originality, that's all," Max responds.

"You don't believe me?" Lucas states.

"Lucas, come on. Seriously? How—"

"Why would he make this up?" I cut her off.

"I don't know! To... impress me or something?" Max says, looking at the boy. "Or you're just, like... insane," Max adds and my eyes widen.

"I tell you all of this, I mean, top-secret stuff, risking my life! And this is how you react?" Lucas stands up.

"Risking your life?" Max scoffs.

"Oh, so this is funny to you!" Lucas exclaims.

"Yeah, I mean... kinda funny?" my sister responds and I roll my eyes.

"Stupid, but funny." she stands up, grabbing her skateboard.

"Where are you going?" I ask her as she reaches for the door.

"Story time's over, isn't it?" she replies and walks away.

"Hey, Lucas." he turns to me and I sigh. "I believe you. Really. At least a bit," I say and he smiles.

"Thanks, Maddie," Lucas states and walks after Max.

"What's wrong with you?" I hear him ask as I still sit on the stool in the back room. I think about what he told us for a little while and then head out to the two.

"Stop talking," Lucas whispers, having his hand on Max's mouth. I walk to them.

"You're going to get us killed. Do you understand," he adds and Max takes his hand away from her mouth.

"You're serious?" she asks in confusion.

"I really wish I wasn't," Lucas mutters and I let out a shaky breath.

"Prove it," I say and Lucas turns to me.

"We need more than just a story time, we need proof," I add.

"I can't," he states and I sigh.

"So what, we're supposed to just trust you?" Max asks.

"Yes." Lucas nods. Suddenly, we hear a car engine outside of the arcade. We run to the door, seeing Billy.

"Shit, we gotta go," Max says and I nod.

"Um," Max mutters and grabs Lucas' hand.

"Don't follow us out. Okay?" she says to him. She opens the door and walks out.

"Do you believe me?" Lucas asks and I turn to him.

"Proof, Lucas," I reply with a small smile and head outside too. Me and Max sit in the car.

"The hell did I tell you," Billy mutters.

"We're not late," Max states and I nod.

"You know what I'm talking about," Billy says.
