Bayside comes into view as my best friend, Olivia, drives us towards our small town. Looking to my right, I can see the ocean. People are surfing, the parking lot is packed, and food trucks line the curb.

Man, I've missed Bayside.

"You miss it, don't you?"

I look at Olivia, noticing the permanent smile she's worn since Jaden Coleman, her longtime boyfriend, proposed to her. I couldn't be happier for her, but coming back to Bayside was bringing up past memories. Some good and some bad.

"Yeah, I miss the adventure here, but maybe not some of the people," I say honestly. She gives me a look and I know we're thinking about the same person.

I haven't seen him since the day he broke up with me. The day before I left to go to college. It happened about three years ago, but the memory is still fresh. It feels like it happened yesterday. It hurts.

The 'Welcome to Bayside' sign passes us as Olivia drives to her house. Familiar buildings come into view as we get closer to the square.

As we enter the square, I can't help but smile. It brings back so many memories. Usually the square is one of the busier places in Bayside, but today it isn't. Probably because a lot of people are in church since it's a Sunday morning.

I'm pulled from my thoughts when Olivia slams on her brakes. She's always been a great driver.

Not.

"Olivia!" I yell.

"Dude!" she yells back, giving me her sassiest attitude. "There's a kid in that tree!"

She points to a tree that's on her side of the car. I can't see so I get out to get a better look. Olivia comes to stand next to me as we look up into the branches up the giant Oak tree. Sure enough, a kid is up there.

"Help!" the little boy yells.

"Hey, hey! I'm here," I call up to him.

"Like you're much help," Olivia whispers. I give her a dirty look and she laughs. "I'll call for back up." She walks back towards the car for her phone and dials a number.

"I'm coming up!"

The boy nods his head, probably too scared to do anything else. To give myself some type or adrenaline, I roll up my nonexistent sleeves. I walk up to the tree and freeze.

I look up and realize how high up the boy is. That's a long way up there.

"Olivia! I need you to give me a boost."

She walks over to me with a skeptical look on her face. "You sure you should climb? We can wait for backup?"

"No, the boy needs my help."

Olivia mashes her lips, trying not to smile. "Mhm."

She lowers her hands for me to step onto. As I do, she gives me a boost up. My hands grab the first branch and I try to use my upper body strength to pull myself up. It doesn't work.

I really need to start going to the gym...

My legs are dangling now. "Olivia, I need help."

Olivia puts her hands on her hips and huffs. "You need to start going to the gym more."

You don't say...

She walks underneath me and places my feet on her shoulders. Since she's taller, her height gives me the extra boost I need to get up onto the branch.

"I'm coming," I call to the kid again.

His little head pokes down. "You're moving super slow."

The nerve of this kid.
