What's your title.

To have a decent title for your story, you've to spend hours on it. Yes, hours. Maybe even days to get a title which is relevant to your story. If you name your book with a really good title but lacks relevancy, then you have to change it.

You cannot just name your book of the story with the first thing that pops in your mind (I'm guilty of doing that).

I was watching this movie review on Youtube. The movie was a Wattpad book adaptation and the title was as expected very cliché. (And the story was even more cliché haha)

I understood the importance of a title today. Though I have named my books with slightly non-cliché titles, I still go on autopilot mode and name some really bad titles. Either they're bad, either they have no relevancy to the story, or they're those titles you always find on Wattpad.

You've to be patient. It's like naming your baby.

Would you think of some really bad names, without really wondering what your baby looks like? This is the same.

I have named my books with strange titles.

Let me give you an example,

Sad boys club

Heartbreakers club (this already exists)

The Daydreamer (just because she daydreams once)

The Pianist (only because he plays the piano once, it has no relevance to the story)

Bring the stars to you (very embarrassed about this because I didn't even know the plot of the story *facepalm*)

Now that you've gone through my cringey mind, lets move on.

Why you should not be embarrassed about using new words:

You have to understand that you don't have to use words which are like out of the world. Just the ones which are synonyms are fine. And also don't go for aesthetic words. You'll find hundreds of them on here. Search for Petrichor  and tell me you didn't find at least 20 of the stories with the same name.

So use words which create a whole new possibility. Make sure they title is making sense. You never know, you must've created a completely new name and a new perspective.

I'm not saying you shouldn't use the titles you have already heard or read of, but it defeats the purpose of originality. And if it isn't relevant to the story, it is worse.

Conclusion: You don't need to name your books with rich vocabulary. Start with simple words. Study your characters, research about your story, write all the titles you've thought about. Find synonyms for the words which you think wouldn't work out.

One of the people I think who not onlh comes with original titles to their poems but also are poetic with it is
KAYTOPIA (do check her stories and poems out. you will end up following her ;] ). I love the way she frames words and is so poetic with it. And her titles are just another thing I love about her writings.

I'm sure there are many writers with amazing titles here on Wattpad and who are also underrated (eyerolls) but she was the first author who came into my mind.

And that's a wrap!

I hope you found this useful.
