His chest rises up and down slowly, steadily. I feel guilty for a second. Like I'm doing something wrong. I'm not. It's not like there's any reason for me to tell him. I've snuck out on guys plenty of times. By now, I'm fully committed to this trip. I have Spencer on board. I called off work. I have to now.

And I don't have to tell Trevor. He's not mine, I'm not his.

But why do I feel so guilty? Fucking whatever. I need to get out of here before I go insane.

The hallway of rooms comes to a T to turn to go to the kitchen and living room. That's where I run into Mira. First out of the house and even awake most days. So, she nearly jumps out of her skin when she turns out of the bathroom to see me.

"What are you doing up?" She asks.

I shush her, sending a worried look back to my door and then Tilly's, which is right next to the woman. I nod for her to follow me to the kitchen. Spencer expects snacks. Might as well have it without having to stop. I can't risk too many chances at hesitation.

As soon as we're in the kitchen she repeats the question this time in a whisper. "What are you doing up? Why are you so paranoid?"

"Going to the Bay for the weekend," I whisper back. "Trevor's asleep. I want it to stay that way."

"Did something happen back home?"

"No. Just felt like going. Gonna grab the twins along the way."

The cogs in her head turn. Suddenly clicking in place all at once. "Trevor's asleep? In your bed? And you're... heading upstate?"

"Yeah."

"You're running from Z."

"Nope. Nothing to do with him."

"Circle back to this very morning in a few months-- weeks even. Maybe days."

"Sure, Mir," I mumble.
