I wake up on Amy's living room couch with and Jack and Lauren staring at me.

"Kids! Give poor Maggie some space!" She scolds and they back off a foot or so. To me she says, "Good to see you up dear. You really scared me when you just passed out like that. What happened?"

I look warily at the kids and Amy shoo's them away to go clean up their rooms before dinner. Once they are out of earshot I begin to explain to Amy everything that happened this afternoon. She gasps and hugs me tightly when I'm finished.

"Oh dear, that was much too close! But I promise you are never going anywhere near that man again!" Amy announces.

I shake my head. "I have to face him one final time in court. I can't just continue to ignore this, something has to be done. Ryan and Sam and out of the way so he can't threaten me anymore. As long as he doesn't find out about you all, it will be safe." I explain.

"It will be safe for everyone but you." Amy whispers.

"It hasn't been safe for me since the morning my mother died. I wont be safe again until he is locked up behind bars. I accept that now and I am going to do my very best to become safe once more." I justify.

Amy shakes her head slowly. "May the good Lord be with you my dear. I will help as much as I can but I'm afraid there isn't much I can do."

I nod and ask for one final favor before going to bed. "May I use the phone to make a quick call?"

"Yes of course. The phone is on the wall near the refrigerator."

I dial the number and it rings exactly four and a half times in my ear before I get an answer.

"Hello this is Dr. Brian Howie, how can I help you?"

"Dr. Howie? This is um Maggie. Maggie Charnet." I almost whisper.

"Maggie? How are you? Are you somewhere safe?"

"Yes I am with a family from my church. They knew my mother. They have been very kind to me."

"Good. So I take it you are going to need my help with the lawsuit against your father?"

"How did you know that I would ask you that?"

"He chuckles sadly into the phone before answering.

"Why else would you be calling?"

"Well yes, I do need help please. I have never even been to court before. I don't know how to go about doing it or anything."

Dr. Howie patiently explains to me every step of filing this lawsuit. I am surprised he knows what to do, I wonder just how many patients he has had to help in similar situations like this? I thank him when he is finished explaining and I put the phone down.

I turn around and see Amy standing behind me, trying to figure something out. When she sees me looking at her she starts to speak.

"Why didn't you just call from your cell phone? That way you don't have to keep track of that pesky piece of paper, you can save it in your contacts instead."

I blush and mumble "I don't have a cell phone to call him with."

"What fifteen year old doesn't have a cell phone?"

I raised my hand. "Neither did Ryan and Sam only had one because he had a job. Oh shoot! His job! They just think he hasn't been showing up! I have to call them and explain."

"Maggie, I can do that for you. I will explain that Sam passed so you don't have to. And we will definitely have to get you a cell phone. Why did you never have one?"

"My father always said that we didn't need them because the only people we would ever need to contact lived under the same roof as us. My mother never wanted to upset him so she went along with it."

"Oh well, you are getting a cell phone officially tomorrow. That is something you are going to need now. And after we get the phone I will take you to an attorney so you can file this lawsuit so that we can just get it over with."

"Thank you so much Amy!" I rush and give her a hug. "But if it's alright, I'm just going to go to bed now."
