"I am anything but a princess. You're being ridiculous." I said, shooting up from where I was squatting and taking steps towards where he was standing between the canopy of the sighing branches.

"I'm not joking." He simply said.

I searched his face, looking for something, anything that could hint away at this all just being a big prank.

But nothing.

No amusement flickered in his eyes, there was no crinkle of laughter on his straight and serious face.

I took a step back in shock and horror, as it slowly sunk in, shaking my head.

No, no, no

I couldn't be a princess.

Lykos's hands raised slightly, taking a step forward, "Lua," he murmured.

"No," I raised my hand, taking another step back, now only a couple of centimetres away from the water.

No, no, no.

This can't be right.

This can't be happening.

My parents were dead. My parents were just a couple from a little village, not rulers of some kingdom. I didn't want to be a princess, perhaps an heir. And having people. People that would look up to me, to seek me for guidance, for protection.

This couldn't be happening.

So many emotions crashed through me: anger, confusion, horror, betrayal, pain.

Betrayal that perhaps Mother and Father knew about this, but still decided to keep a secret.

Pain at the fact that my real parents had decided to keep me away, to grow up and love a different family and not grow up and love them.

And that anger that coursed through my veins like fire, maybe actual fire, made me clench my jaw as it completely overwhelmed me, like a tsunami.

I needed to get out of here and see what Rowan had to say about this. To find out if Mother and Father really did know about my true background. To find out everything.

I slashed my gaze to Lykos, allowing all that rage and fury to show in my eyes, to let my magic slip its leash a little and begin to burn on the tips of my fingers, on the strands of my hair, to boil the water behind us again.

And then a weight on my back set heavily and I instantly knew what they were without having to turn around. The familiarity of the strain of my wings on my back, that slight burning of muscles as I stretched them out before me. Why had it decided to show itself now?

Lykos's eyes were wide as he took in my form: the fire and the wings and the wrath.

I needed to go and see Rowan, I needed to find out what was happening and see if -

"Lua-" Lykos began.

"Can you shut your fucking mouth for a minute," I snapped, trying to think, and he straightened at the filthy language, his face turning slightly red.
