I wander the fluorescent halls in search of my first class. "Let's see," I allow my fingers to glide gently across a strong, firm handrail, "just need to find room 305." Following the directions I had received earlier from another student, I make my way through the unfamiliar concrete jungle. Ah! I peer into a nearby classroom. This has to be it!
My palms begin to sweat as I slowly open the door. I can feel my knees start to buckle as I take several short strides towards a man whom I presume to be Teacher. He raises a single wiry eyebrow. "Who are you?" he mutters, shooting daggers straight into my glossy spheres. I can do this. I have to stay strong for Dad.
Trying to hide my uneasiness, I lock my knees. "Oh, um, m-my name is y/n, I just moved here from-" he cuts me off before I get the chance to finish.
"I didn't ask for your life story, y/n," he says. The class erupts in malicious laughter, their chuckles swirling together to form a song too gruesome for even a dead man to enjoy. I feel my face flush a deep maroon. "Why don't you take a seat next to our other trouble-maker," Teacher says. He lifts his arm and extends it fully towards an empty desk.
I walk diligently towards my chair and sit down. Great, Teacher already hates me! How could this day get any worse?
