Lauren POV

"Hey, sweetie. How was school?" My mother asked coming in with her things in her hand pulling me away from my homework.

"I don't even know why you bother to ask. Its the same as always, boring and not worth my while." She laughed but I was serious.

"You sound just like me when I was younger."

"Well if you know where Im coming from how come you just won't let me do home school? I'll work much harder, I promise." I beg helping her bring her stuff to her room. I sat them down and sat on the edge of her bed while I watch her get undress from her work clothes and into something for more comfortable.

"Well because your grandmother didn't put me in home school when I got tired of it and neither will I put you in there."

"So I have to pay for the consequences now?"

"No. All I'm saying is just wait. You only have one more year left. I promise it'll go by like it's nothing."

I ignored her shaking my head just watching her. It was a few minutes of silence until I spoke.

"Mom do you think I'm pretty?"

She looked at me like she was wondering where this was coming from but answered anyway.

"Sweetie you're beautiful. You look just like me." She smiled.

"Okay so how come it's so hard for me to date?"

"Well one you're too young and two where is this coming from?"

"Nowhere I just wanted to see if you thought I was pretty."

She shook her head. "Yeah well I do."

"Hmm. So I have another question then I'm done, I promise."

"Okay go."

"How did you get with dad?"

"What do you mean?"

"I mean how did you get with him being a plus size girl?"

She laughed and put her hands on her hips and looked at me. "What? You're saying because I'm plus size I shouldn't be with someone who looks like daddy?"

"No what I'm saying is, didn't guys who look like dad when he was younger had these specific types. You know the ones with the coke bottle shape and long hair, pretty, and light skin-"

She caught me off not letting me finish.

"Hold on. What makes you think that's the only way you can be beautiful? Yeah some find that pretty and some may find bigger things more interesting. Like your father." She walked in her bathroom and I followed behind.

"When I first met your father I thought he was the same way too. I thought he was going to go for girls like exactly how you describe but surprisingly he didn't. That right there was enough to prove to me that all the fine looking brothers don't just have that one specific type."

"So you're saying that daddy wasn't all about having the "baddest" females. " I said using my fingers to quote the word baddest.

"Nope and you don't have to be the "baddest" either to get a good looking dude. It's not about how other people see you its about how you see yourself and if you think that you're beautiful."

I nodded in understanding.

"Besides who done caught my baby's eye to be getting her to question herself?"

I scoffed. "Nobody. I just wanted to know what you thought."

She gave me a look that let me know that she wasn't buying it but just carried on back to what she was doing.
