"Hmm." The director of the CIA, Theodore Martin, was an older man with white hair and a neatly trimmed beard. A pair of glasses rested on his nose as he carefully reviewed the information we'd presented him. I secretly crossed my fingers that the evidence we'd collected was enough to have the people from the Board committed for a long time, at least a life sentence. If not, double. This was the man who could either make it or break it.

We'd never met the Board, of course. While the General and us were the puppets, they were the mysterious puppeteers, clothed in black masks and hiding in the background, though always maintaing a strong grip on all of us. If this evidence proved sufficient, a manhunt would be issued for those six people whose names were so conveniently provided in the files we'd found.

My gaze traveled to my friends. They were all still as stone, though I knew better than to just look at their body postures. Finn's leg was shaking every so slightly, hardly enough for it to be noticeable, and Eric kept pursing his lips and looking around the small office we were sitting in, from his hands to the desk and to the books on the shelves. From next to me, Becca's eyes were closed, and her breathing was quiet but deep, showing her fatigue. I was about to fall onto my face from exhaustion as well. I pinched my inner wrist as I felt my lids lower. Ajax was actually pretty still, spine straight, but his eyes displayed signs of nervousness, continuously shifting.

Finally, Director Martin took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes. He set them down and addressed us. "Well, everything seems to be in order."

Becca's eyes snapped open as if she'd been fully awake the entire time. "As in...?"

"As in, as soon as I approve this and sign the proper papers, these people will be found and brought to justice for running an illegal military experimentation. And on children on top of it. I am truly sorry for all you had to experience at such a young age."

"Thank you," Ajax said. "But as long as they are brought to justice, that is all that matters to us."

Director Martin nodded. "Although, you'll each have to answer some questions and give individual statements about your own personal encounters with the project. They will be kept confidential of course, and our agents are sworn to secrecy."

We all nodded and followed Director Martin out into the hallway and down the elevator to the interrogation rooms. We each went into one alone, where an assigned agent was waiting for us at a table with a tape recorder, papers and pen, and two chairs on opposing ends.

"Hello, Miss Richards. Take a seat, please." The agent gestured me to the chair and I sat. "Would you like me to get you something to drink before we start? This could take a while."

"No, thank you. I just want to get this over with." The agent nodded, hit the record button on the recorder and started asking me questions.

"Please state your full name for the record."

"Danika Briar Richards. I was also known as Delta during my time in the project."

"Miss Richards, could you please tell me how you came to be involved in Project Maximus?" The very name sent a chill down my spine.

"Yes." And so, I told the agent, the recording device, and every other agent that was listening in exactly what I had lived through for the past thirteen years of my life. I spoke of the night of my kidnapping when I was five years old, and how my brother and I were brought into a military facility and told it was our new home. Other children joined us over time, but Ajax, Becca, Eric, Finn and I were the only ones left before we knew it. We had no recollection of where the other children were taken or had gone.
