I ran back to the inn and nearly collided with Mrs. Wells as she exited through the front door. We narrowly dodged each other and I slipped in through the door just as she slipped out.

"Whoa there!", she said with a smile. "Where's the fire?"

I straightened myself up. "Uh, no fire, Mrs. Wells. Just came back from my jog."

She looked at me curiously. "Are you alright? It looks like the devil himself was at your heels."

I shook my head. "No. Just a blond that almost ran me over with his truck."

Mrs. Wells looked confused for a moment then laughed heartily. "You mean Dylan McCade?" Geez, if she knew that right off the bat, I wondered just how many blond boys there were in this town that drove trucks.

"Yup. That's him." I started to untie my laces.

She laughed again. "Well I'm sure he didn't mean it. I hope he apologized to you." I nodded my head, saying he did. Quite hilariously, I might add. "And am I right to assume that he was with Brody, Nolan and Garrett?" What was this woman, psychic? I nodded my head again. "That doesn't surprise me. They've been best friends since their diaper days." She sighed, as if reminiscing over an old memory. "Anyways, I'm off to visit some friends." She lifted her purse and a huge Tupperware container. "I left a key for you on the kitchen table in case you're going out. There's plenty of food to eat in the fridge. I should be back a bit after dinner."

I couldn't believe how much faith this woman was putting in me. We had just met yesterday and yet, she's treating me as if she'd known me since my diaper days. Even the people who had known me since then hadn't trusted me so much. How did she know I wasn't a psycho who would burn the place down? Or would sell the inn while she was gone to a drug lord to use as his base of operations?

But I still said, "Yes, ma'am. I hope you enjoy your time. And be careful." I didn't want anything to happen to the sweet old lady.

She smiled broadly at me and waved back at me as she walked down the stairs to her car. "I will. See you tonight." I waved back and saw her turn onto the road before closing and locking the door.

As soon as the lock clicked shut, I immediately began to explore every inch of the inn. I wasn't planning on staying here long, but it's always best to have at least one escape plan then none. As I walked throughout the inn, I noted where all the exits, hiding places and potential weapons were.

There was the front door leading to the road and the side and back doors that led to more woods. I reminded myself to walk around those woods when I got the chance. The windows were those casement windows, which opened like doors towards the inside. At least they'd be easy to open in the event of a quick escape. The second floor wouldn't be too bad of a jump from here. I could make it without twisting or breaking anything.

I could hide in the pantry cabinets; they certainly were large enough. There was also a small closet underneath the stairs that only had cleaning supplies in it. Sadly, there weren't very many other hiding places. I would hate to play hide and seek in here.

As for weapons, I found a very limited few of them, excluding my own. I found a couple of cleavers, steak knives that would work as throwing knives, an old but still sturdy Slugger baseball bat, a few fireplace pokers, some kindling, and heck, even the toilet paper stand in the bathroom. What? That thing could pack a serious hit. There were several others and I memorized each and every one of them as well as their potential uses. I also practiced vaulting over and rolling under furniture just to be sure. As usual, it was a piece of cake.
