I do not make a living from my books and short stories. In fact I lose rather than make money as I spend quite a bit on paying talented artists to develop original artwork and cover designs for my books and short stories. Plus there are all the advertising costs (I wish Amazon, Google, and Goodreads did not charge to advertise on their sites, but they do). I am an independent author dedicated to my art form and if I could give it all away for free I would if I had no costs. But that is not the world we live in.
