Chapter 10
~*~*~*~

FOREVER

What the heck does that mean? Forever? Forever what? Does that mean he's going to be doing this forever? Or he did this for...

Ever. For me.

No. Not uh. I was not going to accept that. I shook my head ferociously at that thought.

"Over here," Daniel says, sounding a few feet away. He left to show the police officers what I had found while Alex stayed by my side.

I could hear a few different sets of footsteps advancing our way. I wanted to look back at them, but my eyes were fixed on that crimson word.

FOREVER

Was it possible to want to attack a tree this much? I wanted to grab something sharp and scratch it out.

The footsteps stopped, I could feel somebody standing only a few short inches behind me. I finally tore my gaze away from the word to look at whoever was there.

Officer McHenry solemnly examined the blood stained tree. He strained his eyes at the word, probably deciding what to make of it. Reading his facial expressions alone, I couldn't figure out what he was thinking. He was careful not to show any emotion.

He turned back towards everyone standing behind us and said, "Boys, I would like to speak to the both of you in private." Daniel and Alex nodded their heads. McHenry then turned his attention toward a tall man standing in the back, whom I hadn't really noticed before. "Detective Evans, would you stay here with Miss Moore?" The man responded with one slow nod of his head.

He stood quite strong and collected, his back perfectly straight, his head held high. Confidence practically radiated off of him in waves. He was young compared to the other officers and handsome, might I add. He had dirty blonde hair, just a few shades darker than Alex's. He looked to be in about his mid, possibly late, twenties.

Would Alex age like him in his twenties?

I looked over at Alex who was already looking at me. He gave me a look as though he were studying me. His gaze turned from me to Detective Evans, his facial features impassive as he observed him. I could tell by the stoic expression on his face that Alex did not care for Detective Evans one bit.

I turned back to Evans and accidentally made eye contact. My stomach anxiously flipped at the unexpected pair of eyes on me. My eyes fell to the ground before returning to look at Alex. He noticed Detective Evans watching me and did not appear happy about it at all. He took one last glance at us before being ushered to follow Officer McHenry.

I turned my gaze back to in front of me and was taken aback a little by how much closer Detective Evans was to me. Up close he was so much taller than I expected. Maybe around the same height as Alex. He held out his hand toward me, saying, "Detective Luke Evans."

I took his hand in mine and shook it. His grip was firm. "Ever Moore. Nice to meet you, Detective."

"Interesting name. And please, call me Luke."

"Of course, Luke. And thanks."

Peering up at him, I realized he had an air of familiarity just rippling off of him. His eyes were blue, but not in the same way that Alex's eyes were blue. When I look at Alex's eyes, I'm reminded of water, like the sea. With Luke's, I'm reminded of air, like the sky.

"I have 2 questions," I blurt out.

"Go for it," he says with a smile. He looked rather intrigued as he waited for what I could possibly have to ask him.
