1. Sage
Sage Teeth Whitening Powder
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons baking soda
- 1 tablespoon dried rubbed or ground sage
- 2 teaspoons fine sea salt
- 15-20 drops peppermint essential oil
Directions:
Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl and add the peppermint oil. Store in a jar or bowl. To use, dip a wet toothbrush into the powder and brush teeth, but be a little more gentle and pay attention to brushing the front of teeth really well. Rinse off with warm water. Use only 1-2 times a week.
2. Turmeric
Dip your toothbrush in an 1/8 tsp of organic turmeric. Apply it to your teeth and let it sit for 3 minutes before rinsing off with warm water. After that, brush with your normal toothpaste. Results will show after a period of time.
3. Strawberries
Strawberry Paste:
Ingredients:
- 1 strawberry
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
Directions:
1) Mash one strawberry with 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in a small dish or bowl. It should darken in color and get a little foamy.
2) Use a toothbrush to apply the mixture to your teeth.
3) Keep the strawberry mixture on your teeth for 5 minutes.
4) Rinse the strawberry mixture off of your teeth and then brush them well. Then rinse again. The same malic acid that whitens your teeth can break down the enamel if left on too long, so this is important. (This is also why you should only whiten your teeth with strawberries no more than once a week.)
4. Baking Soda
Mix multiple teaspoons of baking soda with little water, but enough to make a paste-like consistency. Apply it to your teeth for a minute before rinsing off.
5. Banana Peel
After brushing and flossing, rub your teeth with the inside of a ripe banana peel (not even joking) for two minutes. The minerals in the peel create a whitening effect.
6. Oil Pulling
This method goes back to a long time ago as an Ayurvedic practice originating in India. It freshens your breath, whitens teeth, and strengthens gums.
1. Place 1-3 teaspoons oil in your mouth.
2. Swish and "pull" the oil around the inside of your cheeks and in between your teeth.
3. Continue for 5-20 minutes.
7. Apple Cider Vinegar
Before brushing, swish ACV diluted with water around it your mouth. Dilute the vinegar further if the taste bothers you. Do this occasionally, as vinegar can be harmful to your teeth.
