stiles, malia, scott, skylar and kira were waiting outside along with the other students. they were going to do their PSATs.
"where's lydia?" kira asked.
"she took it her freshmen year." skylar told her as she nodded.
"does that mean i could have taken it some other time?" malia asked.
"malia, you studied harder for this than any of us." scott told her.
"doesn't mean i'm gonna do good." malia replied.
"well." stiles said.
"well, what?" malia asked her boyfriend.
"it's do well, not good." stiles told her.
"god!" malia said angrily.
"okay, okay." stiles said.
"you're doing this, because while we're trying not to die, we still need to live. if i survive high school, i'd like to go to college. a good college." scott said.
"it's only three hours. we can survive three hours." kira said.
they walked into the classroom where they were asked to dip their finger in ink and stamp it on a page. they put their cellphones in an envelope and they were passed a booklet. skylar took a seat beside kira and gave her a smile.
"good luck." skylar told her.
"thanks, you too." kira replied with a smile.
"please do not open the test booklet until you are instructed to do so. this test is two hours and 10 minutes. there will be two 25 minute critical reading sections, two 25 minute math sections and an essay writing portion that will last 30 minutes. there are supposed to be two teachers monitoring this exam." simon said.
"i know. it's coach. he's not exactly punctual. um, let me just try him again." mrs. martin said as she left the room.
she came back in the classroom with a worried look on her face.
"i can't find him, but mr. yukimura is upstairs grading papers. do you want me to try him?" she asked.
"we have to start. we can ask for his assistance during the first break." he replied.
"you may now open your test booklets and begin." he said as everyone started.
skylar opened her test booklet to the multiple choice questions. she made it to the second page when she heard a thud and looked over to see a girl on the floor.
"sydney! are you all right?" mrs. martin asked her as she helped her off the floor.
"i'm okay. i just got kind of dizzy." she replied.
