The wind smelled clean. It carried the new scent of leaves and flowers blossoming on the boughs. A mild sun was out, the sky was a clear blue and shadows pale on the pavement.

Hanami looked at Arata walking beside her. His hands tucked in pocket, thoughtful gaze somewhere far. He kept walking at the same pace even when she slowed. She stopped and looked at his back. A shimmer of sun coated him and after walking a little farther, when he stopped and turned to look for her, set his eyes the shade of honeyed brown. They'd fought that morning, and she fell in love again that afternoon. And she would, over and over.

"Come along, Hana,"he said. "Let's go home."

She hurried to him and held his hand.
