Chapter 6

I wake up with someone laying on my chest. I open my eyes slowly and look down to see Maxine laying between my legs with her head on my shoulder/collar bone. I smile and run a hand threw her hair. "Y/n! Get your ass up" my sister yells from downstairs. I sigh and try to get out from under max without waking her. It doesn't work, she shifts slightly and than jolts up with a yelp
"Max. Are you okay?" I ask worried. She wipes her eyes fast and looks away from me
"Y-Yeah" her voice trembles
"It's okay max" I say sitting back on the bed and pulling her into me. She sobs into my chest and grips onto my shirt tightly.
"It's okay. It's alright. I'm here" I stroke her hair
"You left" she sobs out
"No...no I didn't love. I'm right here. It's okay. I'm here"

When we go downstairs all I get is a 'good morning' slap in the face from my sister and an angry max threatening to hurt her if she touches me again as my sister leaves. I smile at max when she's comes back "I'm okay max" I state making her look at me "Come on. Let's make pancakes" Max smiles and walks over to me.

"Max stop!" I say when she whips flour all over my face. She starts dancing alone to the music ignoring me
I can help but laugh. She's so cute.
"What are you staring at y/n?"
"Nothing" I say Turning back to the pancakes
"Okay" she continues to dance. I love how soft she is

We're in the middle of cooking the pancakes when I get a phone call. I walk over to the phone and answer it, Leaving Max to mess around in the kitchen "y/n! Y/n! Is that you?!"
"Dustin. Yeah what's up bro?"
"D-dart....d-dart"
"What's wrong with dart dude?"
"He ate Mews"
"Mews?"
"Yeah my cat!"
"DART ATE YOUR CAT?!"
"Yes y/n. Now be quiet Jesus"
"Okay okay"
Max walks around the corner looks confused as hell "dart ate a cat? But he's tiny"

I put the phone back to my ear "but he's tiny"
"Not anymore. He's about the size of my cat"
"Shit"
I take the phone away from my ear and turn to max "he's growing"

Dustin told us about dart an hour ago. He won't even let us come check it out. He said he just wanted to talk to someone about it, so Max and I are on our way to Palace Arcade. Billy drove us Because he got told to pick max up but he doesn't want her home.he pulls into the parking lot and max and I get it "if You're not out in an hour-"
"Walking home. Yeah,yeah I know"
"Hey! Watch the attitude, shitbird"
"What'd you call her bud?" I ask
"Get out of my car dumbass!"
"Alright alright" I say stepping out

As billy drive away. Max flips him off making me smile

We walk into the arcade and over to Max's favourite game 'dig dug' but it says 'out of order' I sigh and look at max who looks disappointed.

A man that I have learnt is called Keith walks around the corner and starts talking to max about the game. But I'm too busy looking for Mike,Lucas and Will (knowing Dustin is busy) because their usually here on weekends. I sigh again when I have no luck. Next thing I know I'm getting led to the back of the arcade with max. "Where are we going?"
"To another machine y/n"

We step inside a small room out back. Lucas is standing waiting for us. Or more Max. I go to walk out but Max pulls me back in. "Keep things PG in here alright Sinclair" he winks at Max and than walks out. It's like I'm not even here. I look at max who storms towards lucas "What is this shit, dumbass?"
"Sorry. I just needed a safe place"
"A safe place to what? Be creepy?"
I go to grab the doorknob but max stops me "hey stalker. Stay with me please"
"Okay" I nod sitting down on a chair
"Listen. I'm going to tell you the truth about everything that happened last year. But if anyone finds out. You could be arrested" he sighs "possibly killed"
"Killed?" She looks pissed
"I need to know. Do you accept the risk?"
"Oh, my god! This...this is so stupid" she says turning around in a circle
"Do you accept the risk?"
"Yeah. Sure. Fine" she says looking more than pissed. "I accept the risk" she says taking a seat next to me. One hand under her armpit and one on top of my hand "lets hear it"
"Last year...will didn't get lost in the wood. He got lost somewhere else"
Max looks interested.

"And that was the last we ever saw of her. After that,she was just gone. I can't believe it's been that long. It feels like yesterday" Lucas morns
Max raises her eyes brows and shakes her head in disbelief
"Yeah. I mean,I bet" she looks around "wow" she breaths our
"It's crazy" he sighs "I know"
"It's crazy, but...I really liked it" she says staring right at Lucas. Making me feel a tad jealous
"Liked it?"
"Yeah. Well, I mean, I had a few issues"
"Issues?"
"I just felt it was a little derivative in parts"
"What are you talking about?" It's still like I'm not here
"I just wish it had a little more originality. That's all"
"You don't believe me?"
"Lucas, come on, seriously? How gullible do you think I am?"
"Why would I make this up?"
"I don't know. To impress me or something. Or you're just, like, insane" I bite my lip to stifle a laugh. She
"I tell you all of this. I mean, top-secret stuff." She looks at me smiling slightly "Risking my life. And this is how you react"
She looks at me again and chuckles "risking your life?"
"Oh,so this is funny to you?"
"Yeah. I mean...kind of funny. Stupid but funny" she says standing up
"Where are you going?"
"Story times over isn't it?"

"What's wrong with you?" I look at him and before he can speak again I but in
"What's wrong with her?" I say pointing at max over my shoulder "dude. Get lost"
He ignores me and steps forward towards max "I gave you what you wanted"
"I wanted to be a party of the group, not a part of some joke"
"It's not a joke"
"You did a good job okay? You can go tell the others I believed your lies if it gets you experience points or whatever" she starts to walk away but he grabs her arm
"We have a lot of rules in our party but the most important is 'friends don't lie'. Never ever. No matter what."
"Is that right?" She starts to walk away again and I follow "than how do you explain this?" She says lifting the fake sign off the game 'dig dug'
"I had to do that. To protect you"
"To protect me from who, exactly?" She yells "the big bad government baddies from Hawkins lab?"
"Lower your voice Max" I say looking at her seriously
"Or maybe it was to protect me from the Demogorgon from another dimension?"
"Max in serious" lucas says leaning against the game
"Oh, no, no, no! You know what it was? It was Eleven. The girl-" he puts a hand over her mouth harshly making me angry
"Stop talking" he say in a lowered tone before looking behind her "you're going to get us killed. Do you understand?" She takes his hand away from her mouth
"You're serious?"
"I really wish he wasn't" I say two fingers on the bridge of my nose
"Prove it" she says to me and Lucas
"I wasn't here. But mike told me"
"I can't" he stares at max
"So what? I'm supposed to just trust you?"
"Yes"

All of a sudden we hear Billy's car pull up. Max picks up her skateboard and speed walks towards the door. She looks outside. It is billy "shit. I gotta to. Um...." she grabs my hand and squeeze it gently "dont follow me out. Okay?" I look down at our hands and smile lightly
"Do you believe me?" Lucas yells out the door. Desperate to talk to the red head but she keeps walking. I walk into the doorway and watch from afar

max's POV

"The hell I tell you?"
"I'm not late" I say gently
"You know what I'm talking about"
"Oh, y/n?"
Billy scoffs "so she has a name now,huh?"
"It's-it's a small town okay? We weren't hanging out"
"Hmm. Well, you know what happens when you lie"
"I'm not lying"
He starts the car and we drive away

Y/n walks further out of the arcade as we're driving away. I turn in my seat to take one last look at her before we leave.

Hey loves, I finished stranger things 3 last night//this morning and can I just say I ugly cried so much. It was so amazing 😭
