"You kicked him out?" Casey couldn't hide the look of shock and disappointment all over her face.

"I didn't kick him out. I asked him to leave." I corrected.

"That's the same thing Harp."

I sat down on the patio chair on Casey's deck. I had worked most of Thursday and then had come straight over to Casey's to replay my evening with Chris to her.

"He could have told me before he stuck his tongue down my throat that he was leaving for Boston today."

"Why does that bother you so much?" Casey took a sip of wine and sat down in the chair opposite mine.

"Do you know when he's coming back from Boston?" I asked.

"No." She shook her head.

"Neither does he. That's what bothers me. I'm not doing a long-distance relationship. And matter of fact he didn't even say he wanted to date me!" I exclaimed.

Casey gave me a strange look. "Have you talked to him today?"

"No." I shook my head. "I don't even like him like that."

Casey burst out laughing. Who are you trying to sell that lie too?"

I wrinkled my nose taking a sip of my own wine.

"Hey!" Joe called as he walked out onto the deck. "You 2 want to go to a Bonfire at the beach?"

"Always." I replied as if it were obvious.

Casey nodded in agreement.

45 minutes later we were walking onto the beach where one of Joe's buddies was having a bonfire. Another reason I loved growing up at the beach – summer night bonfires.

I immediately wandered over to the keg for a beer, Casey behind me.

"Who's throwing this bonfire?" I asked Joe looking around.

"My buddy Ryan, why?" Joe helped himself to beer.

"I feel like I know some of these people." My eyes stopped, "Scott."

"Scott?" Casey looked at me, "Chris's brother?"

I nodded at the exact moment Scott noticed me, a huge grin covering his face. I smiled with a small wave as he made his way over to me.

"Harper." He pulled me in for a hug.

"Hey Scott, how are you?"

"I'm good." He smiled at me as if he knew some kind of big secret.

"You talked to Chris, didn't you?" I moaned.

Scott nodded.

"Then you also know he had to leave early last night." I took a sip of beer.

"That's not how he put it."

I raised an eyebrow.

"He said you kicked him out." Scott laughed.

"He failed to mention he was leaving for Boston this morning."

Scott rolled his eyes. "You 2 have been will they, won't they for how long now?"

"What?" My cheeks turned red and I tried to hide my face taking another long sip of beer.

"Oh come on now."

"He's not really interested me like that. And I'm not into him like that. So we made out. That's it. No big deal." I shrugged.

"You lie Harper Davis."

"Trust me. He was the one that said it was just a kiss."

"Ok, let's try an experiment."

"I don't even want to know what that is supposed to mean."

Scott pulled his phone out, "C'mere." He stretched his arm out wrapping it around my shoulders. "Say Cheese."

He held his phone up and snapped a selfie of us.

"What are you doing?" I looked down at his phone.

"Seeing how long it takes Chris to respond to this picture."

"He's not going to care. We're really just friends Scott."

"Record timing!!!" Scott held his phone up.

"What? That was him? What'd he say?" I tried to see the screen on Scott's phone.

"Thought you didn't care." He smirked.

"I don't."

Scott read the text message and laughed.

"What?" I wanted to know.

Scott flipped the phone around so I could read the message.

'You're with Harper?! Is she there alone? Who's she with? What'd she say about me?'

"May I?" I asked.

Scott nodded as I took his phone to reply.

'She's with some guy. She said you're a bad kisser.'

Instantly the 3 dots popped up and he responded, 'Who's the guy?' and then, 'I'm not a bad kisser. There is no way she said that.'

I laughed and responded, 'Pretty full of yourself aren't you Evans?'

A second later the phone rang. "Hello?" I answered.

"Harp?" He breathed.

"Yes."

"You have Scott's phone. Of course. So there's no guy?"

I laughed. "No I'm here with Casey and Joe."

"Good." He sounded relieved. "I'm sorry about last night."

"It's fine."

"It's not."

"It is." I assured him.

"I'll be back in LA in a month or so."

"Ok." A month seemed like forever.

"Harper, I can tell you're upset."

"I'm not upset Chris. We're friends. We made out. It's no big deal." I had this line memorized.

"It's more than that, you know it is."

"Hey Scotty needs his phone back. I'll talk to you later." I hung the phone up and tossed it back to Scott who just stared at me.

"What?" I asked defensively.

"Nothing." He shoved his phone in his back pocket. "I just think you're in deep denial or a pathological liar about your feelings for my brother."

"Oh would you look at that? I need a refill." I tipped my cup up and finished it off in one gulp.

Walking back over to the beer tap I felt a little unsteady from how quickly I drank the cup of beer. I still filled my red solo cup back up.

"Harper?" A man's voice behind me asked.

I spun around and my eyes grew wide, "Josh?"
