Two minutes.

Two whole minutes of complete silence and tension. Monica should know. She had counted every second as she internally scolded herself for verbalising her feelings for him.

Clearly, he hadn’t been ready, nor had he expected her to express those feelings towards him. The expression on his face and the way his body had immediately tensed made that much abundantly clear.

It made her worry that things had changed for the worse between them now. That perhaps her confession had struck fear into him, becoming the very thing that could turn him against her entirely. Perhaps out of loyalty to his selfish wife.
