Meera's pov

As Preeti and I walked through the corridors towards my classroom, engaged in conversation, my eyes kept scanning the crowd, searching for a familiar face. But no matter where I looked, I couldn't seem to find him. Disappointed, we entered the classroom, where Rani was already waiting for us. She greeted us with a warm smile, and Preeti wasted no time in pulling her into a tight hug.

"Hayee, kitni patli ho gayi hai meri bacchi, khana nhi khaya kya tune yaa dieting kar rahi thi pure mahine" Preeti exclaimed teasingly, making a show of inspecting Rani's frame. While I chuckled at her remark.

(Oh my, how slim my child has become! Have you not eaten anything, or have you been on a diet for the whole month?)

Rani playfully hit her head and chuckled. "Pagal!" she said affectionately, returning Preeti's hug. Then, turning to me, she asked, "So, how was the vacation, babies?"

(silly)

Preeti couldn't resist making a joke. "Just like you... boring!" she replied, bursting into laughter including me. Rani playfully slapped her arm again, and Preeti pouted, protesting, "Yar, ek toh baby bolti ho, upar se marte bhi ho! Koi aise marta hai kya bachche ko?"

"Wow, didn't you called us baby! now you are only beating, Who slaps a child like that?"

Rani shook her head with a grin. "Harkate toh bachon wali hai, lekin jubaan nahi, kutti kahi ki," she teased. We all laughed, and I interjected, "Bas karo yaar, mera pet fat jayega haste haste," eliciting more laughter from my friends.

(The behavior is childish, but the tongue isn't; you're acting like a real brat.)

As the assembly progressed and teachers began delivering their speeches, I couldn't help but feel a sense of discomfort standing in the scorching sun while they enjoyed the cool breeze from the fans on the stage. The contrast was stark – they stood in comfort while we, the students, endured the blazing heat.

I listened half-heartedly to their words of motivation, urging us to focus on our studies and excel in our academics. While I understood the importance of their messages, it was hard to concentrate when all I could think about was escaping the relentless sun beating down on us.

I glanced around at my fellow classmates, noticing the sweat glistening on their faces as they tried to stay attentive.

As the speeches dragged on, I couldn't help but wonder why the assembly couldn't have been held in a more comfortable setting.

Khud toh fan ke niche h aur bhashan de rahe h, aur hume dhoop mein khare kar diya hai, I thought to myself with a hint of frustration.

But before I could linger any longer, Preeti tugged on my arm, pulling me away from where we stood.

"Chal na, Meera!" Preeti said, oblivious to the turmoil raging within me. "Aaj ka din bada boring ho raha hai, kuch masti karte hain!"

As I wandered through the corridors of the school, my mind kept drifting back to him. Why hadn't he come today? It was unusual for him to be absent, except on his birthday or for something significant. The worry gnawed at me, overshadowing my usual focus on school activities.

Entering the washroom, I sought solace in the familiar routine. But as I glanced down, a sigh escaped my lips. Of course, today had to be the day when my period decided to make an appearance. Why couldn't it have waited until I was back home? With a resigned sigh, I mentally prepared myself to deal with the inconvenience.

Searching my bag in vain for a pad, I resigned myself to the fact that I would have to ask someone else. Perhaps Preeti or Rani had one. If not, I'd have to make a detour to the medical room.
