The party begins to come to a slow end as people start disappearing. The only people that still remained were the group of boys Amber had befriended, Jayon, and a few others that were dispersed amongst the living room. Amber had passed out a while go after she continued to take shots with her new boo. I was still making sure I was watching her the entire time she slept. She ended up on the floor in another living room area connected to the kitchen, right next to the boy who still had a blunt hanging from his mouth.

I look at my phone to check the time. It had been 2 hours since we'd been here, just barely hitting 12. I knew my Mom was expecting me to be home by now, and here I had an intoxicated driver knocked out under some random she had just met. It occurred to me that I hadn't been having fun since I arrived to this party. I told myself this was the last time I would let Amber talk me into going to another one with her.

Jayon had stopped talking to me the moment he seductively made me aware of his presence. He was definitely trying to get me in bed with him but I made it seem as if I was uninterested in his advances. He made me very aroused, but that wasn't his business to know that. I refused to lose my virginity at a house party to someone I didn't know. I could tell that that's how he picked up girls. I was almost certain that that worked on just about every girl he came across, but me? Nah. I figured he'd lost interest in me when he vanished from the kitchen. The last thing I heard was that he winded up in the backyard.

I'm sitting in the corner of the less crowded living room listening to my type of music. Thank Goodness I brought my headphones everywhere I went or else I would have went insane here. There was a flat screen T.V in front of me playing old pop hits on MTV. It was always interesting seeing what the evolution of pop music was like from them to now. I look over at Amber who started to mumble in her sleep, standing up to wake her up. It was time for us to go home and even though I didn't have my license yet I couldn't afford to get in trouble by my Mother during the beginning of summer. She'd never let me leave the house again. I knew how to drive, I just didn't have my permit.

I softly kick her leg. "Amber," I start. "Amber, come on. Get up."

"Leave her alone, she's sleeping," the boy she had been slouching on tells me.

"Thanks Captain Obvious but we have to go," I say. Now I was really starting to get pissed.

"You go. She's fine, I got her."

"If you think I'm gonna just leave my best friend here with you, you're crazy," I grin.

The dude rolls his eyes and puts his blunt in a astray near him. He softly lifts up Ambers head and arms, removing himself from under her. Her head touches the floor and she groans in exhaustion. I knew she wasn't gonna be able to drive.

I hear the back door open and my eyes dart towards Jayon, who had been coming back inside. He sees me standing over Amber and looks at her immediately. He seemed concerned. "Whose the DD?" He asks.

"Amber," I answer. "But she obviously can't drive now, so I'm gonna have too."

"You can drive?" He starts to questions me.

"Yeah. I just don't have my L's yet but I'll be getting it soon."

The boy Amber slept on makes an obnoxious sound. "How old are you?" He asks.

"16, why?"

"Derek chill," Jayon tells his friend. He must've seen where this was about to go.

"Nigga you chill. She 16 and don't even have her permit. Lame as hell," he spits.

"You're lame as hell," I raise my voice. Amber's eyes suddenly snap open.

"What's going on?" She asks rubbing her eyes.

"You can't drive and especially if you don't have your permit Dj. You tryna get in trouble or what?" Jayon sarcastically asks.

"Amber it's time for us to go. Get up," I tell her, ignoring Jason's statement completely. I knew he had rolled his eyes.

"Huh? Aren't we partying? Amber sputters. She looks at Derek, who was still trying to lift her off of the ground, but she wasn't budging. "Amber no, the party's over. Get up I want to go home," I complain.

"Tell you what," Jayon begins. "I'll take you home, and my boy Derek can take your friend home. How does that sound?"

"Why can't she just ride with us? I don't trust her alone with your friend. I don't even trust you but at least we'd be together," I tell him.

"You act like I'm gone' try to rape her or something," Derek grins. "I don't fuck bitches when they're intoxicated. Her ass wouldn't even throw it back right."

Anger begins to take over my body. He really had the nerve to say that when she'd practically been under his ass cup-caking with him this entire night. If Amber wasn't so drunk, I knew for a fact she would have just slapped the hell out of him.

I wasn't drunk though.

The next thing I knew, my hand was across Derek's face. I made sure I slapped him hard enough to where I knew the feeling of discomfort would linger for a few seconds. He attempted to stand up to grab me, but Jayon stepped in straightaway grabbing his friend from doing something he was going to regret. "Stop Derek. Chill!" Jayon tells him.

"Nah nah," Derek rubs his face and laughs. "She wanna put her hands on me lemme me show her something," he says, getting from the ground completely. Jayon still had him restrained but he was furious. I didn't care though. He had no right to talk about my best friend that way.

"Dj," Amber finally jolts awake. Her eyes assess the situation and she sees me and Derek standing on opposite sides of the room. I had made my way to the door the minute I slapped him. "Derek I'm not gone tell you to chill no more nigga," Jayon begins. "You put your hands on a female you're done for,"

"We need to go," I tell Amber while Jayon is still holding onto Derek's shoulders. Amber stands to her feet with a confused expression on her face. "What the fuck is going on?" She asks.

Derek looks at me intensely when Jayon let's go of him. "Whatever man," he says. I could tell that he was scared of Jayon. It was clear to me who ran who between them, and that made Derek look even more weak than before.

"You wouldn't have gotten slapped if yo' ass kept the jokes to yourself," Jayon speaks. He makes his way to the front door, opening it for me and Amber to walk out of it. I started to place one of her arms around my shoulder, while Jayon had her other arm around his. She was awake, but she was still extremely out of it. I made sure I was gonna explain everything to her the next morning.

"So you just gone go soft on me nigga?" Derek asks. "I see where my loyalty lies."

"You're high as fuck Derek, go fall asleep somewhere. I'll be back, I'm gonna take them home," Jayon tells him, shaking his head as he closed the door behind us.

Not another word was spoken until we were all in his car.
