When I said "it's a secret"
I meant "ask me some more"
For the times I've lost in your bet
I wanted you to have the scoreE'ery sorry and sudden silence,
I'd hope you'd squeeze my hand;
Be true when you say, "it's alright"
And stay with me in my lonesome landWhen I'd say "go ahead"
I wanted you to wait
Every promise that you have said,
I hoped it wasn't just another baitWhen you wrote me that poem, dear;
That sweet piece handwritten
Has trapped all my drear
Yet has led me to how I am smittenWhen I said "I don't care"
Dear, I wrote you two and half a dozen
You've read none, I couldn't bare;
Now facing regret, untouched yet brokenE'ery word you spoke vigorously
Is why I stayed mute — undelivered;
Skittish to say confidently
That I disagree and am so unamusedWhen I shared my hopes and dreams,
I meant that we could go deep and deep
But love is never as it seems
Dear, you were never one to keep
