Patch's pov:
I draw the chief's attention to me as I sprint away from Astrid. I'm running around trees when I hear the thud of a knife on the tree next to me. I grin as I run faster. I can hear the heavy thuds of the fat chief's footprints following behind me. I'm about to run in a different direction when I realize that I don't hear heavy footprints behind me any more. I stop dead in my tracks and fear the worst. He could have figured out what my plan was and headed back towards Astrid, towards the tree house! I start running back in the direction I came from. My reflexes are on high alert and I suddenly feel the hairs on my neck stand straight. Knowing what's happening before I see it, I slide down on my side through the leaves and then quickly pop up. I turn around and arm my bow before I see the threat. My eyes find a knife stuck in the trunk of the tree where my head would have been a second ago.
"Show yourself Helgarrd."
Just speaking his name caused bile to form in my mouth.
"That is no way to treat your chief," he bellows as he comes out of the shadows of the trees. I aim my arrow straight at his heart. I really want him to make a move so I can end his life. He doesn't have a knife in his hands at the moment.
"You're no chief to me!" I shout back, my eyes glaring holes in his head. He takes a step foward and I tighten my hold on my bow causing him to retrace that step.
"I should end your life right now. You're lucky I'm not a murderous killer!"
"You don't want to kill me. I helped you!"
"Helped me? Helped me! You took everything away from me! My friends. My sister!"
"She was interfering with my plans."
"You killed her!" A tear runs down my face and I'm screaming furiously at him now. "You killed her right in front of me and all because she was trying to save our people! You're a monster!"
He shouts back, "you agreed to stay with me!"
"I only agreed to stay with you because you promised you would let our people leave safely!"
"And I regret that choice every day."
"You killer!"
"It's a shame for your friend you tried so hard to save. I know where your stupid little tree house is."
"So?"
"It's also a shame that you won't be there to save her, just like you weren't there to save poor Rosaline."
His words register in my head and I lower my bow in horror.
"No."
I watch as he turns and runs back into the shadows. Forgetting about him, I turn and sprint towards the tree house as fast as possible, blindly wiping any trace of tears from my face.

Oooh suspense!! Don't you just love cliffhangers (Rubs hands mischievously together). What do you think of Patch? I decided to give him ninja-like reflexes to make him seem more experienced. :P
