"Are you sure you want to face them alone? You don't have to."

Chloe has been so worried the whole drive back, fidgeting on her seat all the time and chewing on her bottom lip. The closer we were getting back the more uneasy she was becoming. She seemed even more worried than me.

She looks at me with a frown, silently begging me to let her come with me so I wouldn't have to do this alone.

I have to though.

The last thing that I want is to have her next to me while my parents yell at me for going out. I don't want her to see how vulnerable I get at those moments. I might be tough around other people but I become weak in front of my father.

I raise my hand towards her and cup her cheek, running my thumb over her cheekbone, hoping this would soothe her a bit.

"Don't worry okay, I'm going to be fine," I say, keeping my hand on her cheek for a few more seconds before removing it as the elevator indicates we're here.

"Promise?" She asks, her voice trembling as she grabs my wrist to stop me.

I can't lie to her, so I just offer her a small smile and grab the hand that was holding me and squeeze it.

"Come on," I say, nodding towards our apartments.

Before I can even put the key in, the door flies open and there is my father, standing with a look in his eyes I've never seen before. A look that almost made me flinch.

"Get in," he says with such a calm voice the complete opposite of his expression.

I throw Chloe one last glance discreetly and smile at her before going inside.

My mum is pacing back and forth in the living area, holding her forehead.

"Sit down now," my father says still keeping that calm tone, but I can clearly hear the anger in it.

I sit on the couch and look at the rug beneath my shoes.

"Where were you?"

"Out with friends," I say, swallowing loudly as I hear my father chuckle.

"Out huh? And when exactly did I give you permission to do that? because I don't remember ever doing so!" His voice raises a tone as he speaks.

"I didn't need your permission! I'm 19, why can't I go out like everyone else?" I say, raising my voice to match his tone as I look up at him for the first time ever since I sat down.

I don't know where I found the courage to speak up like this to him but honestly, I'm just getting really tired of this all.

The rules. The fights. The yelling. The hatred.

"Oh, really? What? We gave you the freedom to walk from and to university and a spare key and all of a sudden you think you can do whatever you what!? If you forgot the rules, I can remind them to you one by one," he comes closer to me yelling.

"I don't need a reminder," I say, moving instinctively back on the couch.

The short-lived courage I had gone already.

"Rule one, you're not allowed out of this apartment unless it's to go to university," he starts saying as if I haven't lived with this set of rules since I was born.

"Rule two, you can't interact with any girls. Rule three, no romantic relationships are allowed for now. Rule four, no sexual interaction allowed for now. Rule five, your friends are allowed to come over for 3 hours top. Rule six, you get first on all your assignments to have a bright future."

"You just broke 3 out of 6 rules," he says, jaw clenched and lips pressed tightly together as he glares at me.

"I and Chloe are just friends, there's nothing romantic going on between us," I say, looking down at my shoes.

I'm not really lying about that. I'm not sure what I'm feeling for her and I sure as hell don't think she feels the same about me.

"Oh, really? So, you don't get hard by her? You don't want to fuck her? You don't want to touch her? To kiss her? Who are you fooling boy? Girls and boys can't be just friends, it never works," he yells.

"Anyways, I think this conversation has gone on for far too long, I think is proper to have a fair punishment now!" He says after sighing loudly while pointing his finger at me.

"Don't you think all those rules are obscure? I'm 19 for fucks sake!" I can't keep my voice from wavering even though I tried to appear strong.

"For as long as you're studying for your future and living under my roof, you'll follow the rules you like them or not boy. I think that girl is a bad influence on you, seeing as you didn't even dare to rebel like this to us before so, no more interactions with her from now on!" My jaw drops at what he says.

He took away my freedom and now he's going to take Chloe too.

"What?" I shout, standing up.

"You heard me and don't worry cause that's just a small part of your punishment. Since you're all grown up now that you're 19, right?" He says, using his calm tone again.

He moves back smiling at me, making my heartbeat race like crazy as I wait to hear where this is going.

The next words that come out of his mouth almost make me collapse on the floor as sheer panic takes over me.

"No more painting for you," He says going to the kitchen, grabbing 2 large empty bin bags and starts going towards my room.

"No, you can't do that to me!" I yell, rushing after him.

"Stop!" I grab his arm, trying to stop him from throwing away all my paintings.

"You want to be an adult? then you follow the rules!" He yells, shoving me back on my bed.

I lay there silently crying my eyes out as he puts all my paintings and supplies in the bags ready to throw them in the bins like they're worthless. Once he's ready to leave with them I try once again to stop him.

"No please!" I cry out whilst sobbing.

I can physically feel my heart break into a thousand pieces, scattering around the place as my source of breathing is getting taken away from me.

"Enough!" He shouts, raising his hands as if to hit me.

I flinch back whilst closing my eyes, ready for an impact that never comes. Slowly opening my eyes again I see him closing his eyes and taking in a deep breath to calm himself.

My father never laid a hand on me before.

This was the first time that he was even about to do so.

"I said enough. And now you can stay locked up in your room for the next two days. Maybe that will help you clear your head yeah?" He says at me while shoving me back on my bed, closing and locking the door behind him.

What am I going to do now?

I sit up, sobbing in my arms as I let out a scream not realising that the girl next door saw everything from my balcony.
