19.) Big Sister

Honey picked Myia up and the little girl slid into the car with a grin. "Put your seatbelt on, Myia."

Myia did as she was told and Honey eased off the curb, ignoring her ringing phone. She knew it was Cash.

"Your mom said I can get you a manicure and a pedicure, but you can only get certain colors."

"Okay."

Honey took Myia to Great Lakes Crossing and to the nail shop. She came in regularly, so she was greeted by name.

"And who is this?" her nail tech, Jalyn, asked.

"This is my little sister, Myia. She just getting a mani-pedi with color, and I'm just getting a pink and white."

"Alright then."

Honey asked Jalyn to do Myia so the little girl would feel comfortable, and she got her nails and feet done by someone else.

Honey had a little breathing trouble and puffed her inhaler a few times.

When they were done, and Honey had spent more than a hundred dollars already, Myia's little jaw dropped.

"When you grow up, make sure you get a good job and you can blow money that easily, too. You'll never need a man for money."

Myia, with her freshly painted yellow nails, just bobbed her head.

Honey then took Myia shopping, picking up summer clothes. "You don't have a bathing suit yet, do you?"

"It's too little."

Honey wasn't sure how Kara would feel about her baby in a two-piece. For a young girl, she already had a little shape coming in. So when Honey saw the bathing suits, the only two pieces she looked at had full tops and shorts for bottoms or had cover ups. Myia liked everything that Honey had picked up for her, and Honey picked up wet shoes.

Honey touched Myia's hair. "You want headbands?"

"Yeah."

Honey took Myia to Claire's and got her a few headbands, then she looked at her pierced but bare ears.

"Why don't you have earrings, Myia?"

"Tristan said leave them, and he'll buy me new ones."

Honey looked at a few pairs of studs, not sure whether Kara would approve of even the smallest hoops. She saw a cute little pair of Hello Kitty studs.

"Do you like these, sweetie?"

"Yes."

Honey got the earrings and Myia saw a Betty Boop purse. As sensual and sexy as Betty Boop was, she didn't have to second guess the no. Betty Boop was just too grown for little girls, so Myia found a Bobby Jack bag, which was fine.

Myia wanted lip gloss, so Honey made sure that it would be clear before she bought it. If Kara later told Honey that she didn't want Myia to have it, Myra's little sister could have it.

"What is your job, Honey?"

"I work at the bank as a teller. When I graduate college, I'm going to be a financial advisor."

"You're in college?"

"Yeah. I took a semester off. I'll be back in September, and then I'll graduate in March."

"Oh."

"What do you want to be when you grow up?" Honey asked, looking at necklaces.

"I want to be a computer programmer like Tristan."
