ABDICATION OF THE KING OF SPAIN

YEAR 2014

It was morning and me and my sister sofia were having breakfast when all of a sudden...... mom came into the living room with a worried look on her face until she told us the most schocked news......

Letizia: girls, today a lot of things will change for all of us, but mostly for dad and for you leonor

I: me? why me?

Letizia: from now on almost everything will be different for spain and for all the spaniards

Sofia and i shared a confuse look since i was 9 and my sister was 7, our mom saw that look and she explained to us so that we could understand, she said: today your grandfather will abdicate to the throne and your father will become the new king of spain and that means......when our father also entered the room, he told us that i will become the Princess of Asturias, the heir to the throne and my sister will officially become the Infanta of spain, the second in line of succesion to the throne.

Letizia: this also means that even in our family some things will not be the same as before, for example when dad will be king only leonor can walk in front of him in public events, when we will greet people the order to shake their hands will be: dad, me, leonor and sofia, understand?

Sofia and i were still confused but at the same time excited, we were still too younng to understand the protocol and what this event linked to responsabilities entailed, especially me. 

Felipe: during the ceremony, there will be aunt Elena, grandma, grandpa and also a lot of people, you two will sit with aunt Elena, she will tell you when you you have to get up and all the other things you have to do

then Sofia asked ''where will you and mom be?''

dad said: we will be sitting not far from you girls but next to grandma and granpa.

X: King juan carlos signed his abdication, the royal family were joined by the government ministers and prime minister, the King abdicades in favour of his son Prince Felipe and after his son, his grandaughter leonor now Princess of Asturias will be the first Queen regnant of spain after a long time. The royal palace has announced that Juan Carlos and his wife Sofia will retain their titles of king and queen after their son Felipe officially assumes the throne.

X: this week there will be the proclamation of Prince Felipe where a speech will be held, this ceremony is also a family affair in a certain way because as we know Juan Carlos has 8 grandchildren, but the first child of felipe and letizia at only 9 years old s the youngest heir to the throne in Europe.

Sofia's pov:

i didn't really understand anything at all, but from what i understand is that i really don't like having all that attention on me, both mom and dad told us that a lot of things will change, i'm a little scared of what will happen once dad becomes king, i just know that everything we do will be in the public interest.

My pov's:

i am still a little confused from what has just heppened and today there's a lot of pression on me, i can feel it, i'm not sure if i can handle it in the future, from now on everyone will start treat me in a different way as the heir, especially at school.
