everett

but it isn't aidan.

it's a man nearly a year or two younger than him, a small smile on his face. "you were looking lonely over here, so i decided to join you. i'm derek."

"everett."

"that's a nice name," his voice is definitely a pitch higher than his boyfri— ex boyfriend's.

"likewise."

"you're not dating anyone, are you?"

everett raises an eyebrow, stupefied. "you're not always this forward, are you?"

derek laughs, and it sounds like honey. "no, don't worry. you just caught my attention. confidence isn't really my strong suit, which is probably why i suck at it."

"i mean, you were doing fine until you spoke," everett grins, surprised by his reactions. it's only been three weeks since he's seen aidan, and four days since they broke up. has he been that desperate for attention so someone can notice him? or has he just realized that aidan may not be the one for him after all?

"what do you study?"

the question launches conversation, and everett finally is finally starting to pull himself out of rock bottom.
