The dark lullaby made the dirt-stained baby cry
The mama sang it softly, now barely audible
Chanting the words to a methodical beat
Leaving his black carriage in the street
The young mama finished singing
And left the poor little baby there in retreat
The mama backed up and walked away
Turned her back on her flesh and blood
Never to see her baby boy again
He was dirty and feeling abandoned
Crying aloud for comfort and a bottle
All the baby wanted was a loving touch
But no one came to the baby's rescue.
