Chapter 9

Mud splashes onto my jeans. My lungs gasp for air. I will myself to move faster.

'They're catching up!' I mentally scream at myself. I cradle my wrist against my chest. I look back, and that's my mistake.

Chapter 9

My eyes flash open and I stare at the ceiling. I check my phone, it's three a.m. I sit up and push the covers aside.

I slowly close the room door behind me. I walk down the long halls and corridors. The house is still and quiet, except for one sound.

The sound is the drone of a violin. I walk down the hall trying to locate the source of the music. I find the door, soft light leaks under the door.

I slowly open the door. The girl has her back turned to me. Her blonde hair isn't tousled any more.

She turns around, "I was expecting you Rosalie."

She flashes her fangs. Her eyes are still a normal golden blue though. I give her a puzzled look.

She laughs, "oh Rosalie you have so much to learn."

"How do you know my name?"

"Rosalie word travels fast when royals 'hook up.'"

"But Daniel and I haven't..."

She cuts me off, "it doesn't matter if you haven't, everyone just believes you have."

"Anyway what have you come here for?" She asks.

"I was wondering why you were banished. I've heard stories, but I've never known the truth," I explain.

"It's a long story that I don't need to tell today," she answers.

Victoria places the bow back onto the strings, and begins to play again. I slowly turn and walk back towards my room. I find myself looking at Daniel's door across the hall.

I slowly turn the knob and walk in. Daniel is sound asleep. I look at his clock, it's now three thirty a.m.

'Should I?' I think to myself.

I take a deep breath and slowly nudge Daniel. His eyes flutter open. He has worry sketched across his face.

"Are you okay Rose?" He asks worriedly.

"I'm okay I just can't sleep. Could I stay in here with you?" I softly ask.

"Of course." He scoots over and makes room for me.

He gently embraces me and hugs me to his chest. I close my eyes and listen to the sound of his breathing. The soothing sound makes my eyes droop.

The alarm blares and Daniel and I are both startled. We say our 'good mornings' and I walk across the hall to get ready.

I pull out a tight lavender Hollister shirt, light blue skinny jeans, and black pumps. I shower and curl my hair, then apply soft make-up.

I make sure I have my debit card to go shopping later that night. I grab my bag and head downstairs. Daniel and I get in his car and take off down the road.

Daniel pulls up to the front entrance. The parking lot goes silent as we step out of the car. I look down at my arm.

I forgot to cover it this morning. The Phoenix swirls in a orange flame. I slide my jacket on, and take Daniels hand.

We walk into the large building. People stare at Daniels hand engulfing mine. I giggle there's a new power couple in school.

"Rose!"

I turn around and see Devan sprinting down the hall.

"Hey Dev!"

"How are you doing? I heard you moved in with Daniel," he says the last part a bit quieter.

"I'm good and Dev my parents and I have been having issues lately. That's why I'm living with Daniel."

He has an 'ohh' look on his face.

I laugh, "well I have to go to class Dev I'll see you after school."

I walk off with Daniel to class. I sit through my class lectures. And when the last bell rings I let out a sigh of relief.

I meet Devan and the rest of my friends in the parking lot. We're all riding together to the dress/suit shop. Devan starts the car and turns the radio up.

We all laugh and sing the whole way there. Devan stops the car in front of a small dress shop. As we walk in a small bell dings.

The lady behind the front desk welcomes us. And leads us to the prom section of the shop. I look through the racks.

I stop and stare at a breath taking dress. I take it of the rack and go to the dressing room. I slip on the silk material.

I walk out and I hear Devan gasp. I look into the mirror. Across the bodice is shimmering crystals.

The dress is a light indigo. It hugs down my waist, flows out into a sea of silk material. This gown is truly breathtaking.

"Rose you look beautiful!" I hear May call from the seats were she hold her light green dress.

I stare into the mirror again. Crystals accent all the way down the top, they stop only when the mermaid skirt starts. Some small crystals decorate the skirt.

I walk back into the dressing room and change back into my clothes. I carry the dress to the front counter where the kind lady stands.

"Is this it for you Miss?" She politely asks.

"Yes thank you ma'am."

"This is a lovely gown. This is a Sherri Hill original," she says to me.

"Really?" I ask curiously.

"Yes, it's straight from the runway itself. Ms. Hill gave us this dress until we got more like it." She tells me.

"Well it truly is beautiful."

"Here you go dear." She hands me the dress bag and my receipt.

I wait for the others to pay. Devan found a suit that matched his dates dress. Sophie got a simple pastel pink dress. May and Will are going together so their outfits matched.

Devan drives me to Daniels mansion. I wave bye to the others as they pull out of the driveway. I told Devan to text me later.

I walk in the door. I glance into the living room and see Nathan making out with his whore of the week. I walk upstairs and down the long hallway.

I hang my dress into my closet. I then walk across the hall and lightly knock on Daniels door. I hear him pause the music on his stereo.

He opens the door. His hair is still damp from the shower he took after school. He grins at me and tugs me into his room.
