The Lost Twins

Chapter thirteen

Matteo's pov

The last couple of weeks have been a peaceful time for us. There hasn't been any fighting or tension, everyone has been very calm and it feels like a weight has been lifted off of us. However, we know that peace and tranquility don't last forever. Last night, Pietro received and anonymous note threatening us. Let's just say, Pietro was not happy.

"Cosa faremo protrebbero? Sapere dei gemelli!" Pietro shouted, (What are we going to do? They could know about the twins)

"Dobbiamo reagire!" Sebastiano yelled, (We fight back!)

"Non possiamo reagire, e i gemelli?" I said, (We can't fight back, what about the twins?)

"Che ne pensi di loro? Vuoi che si facciano male?" Sebastiano demanded, (What about them? Do you want them to get hurt?)

"No, non voglio che si facciano male, ma non possiamo lasciarli prendere dal fuoco incrociato," I said, (No, I don't want them to get hurt, but we can't let them get caught in the crossfire,) 

"Cosa possiamo fare?" Luka asked, (What can we do?)

"Spostarli nella casa sicura?" I asked, (Move them to the safe house?)

"No, questo significherebbe che dovremmo dire loro tutto sulla mafia e io non lo faro," Pietro said, (No, that would mean we'd have to tell them everything about the mafia and I'm not going to do that,)

"Forse dovrebbe sapere," Emilio said, (Maybe they should know)

"No, questo mette solo un obiettivo ancora piu grande sulle loro spalle," Pietro said, (No, that just puts and even bigger target on their backs,)

"Quindi cosa facciamo?" (So, what do we do?)

"Agiamo normalmente ma li nascondiamo di piu e aggiungiamo piu sicurezza," Pietro said, (We act normal but hide them more and add more security,)

"Per quanto tempo possiamo farlo prima che diventino curiosi?" I asked,(How long can we do that before they get curious?)

"Tutto il tempo necessairo," Pietro said, (As long as it takes,)

I know Pietro isn't too worried about the twins getting curious or angry with how he wants us to act but I am. If we act like something's wrong, it would worry them and if we don't tell them a good answer, they might be angry or frustrated. I don't think it's good to suddenly act like this when their trust in us, at least Gio's is, is shaky at best. Those two have been through so much and if our behavior changes, it might scare them. I need him to understand that.

"Pietro, devi capire che i gemelli ne hanno passate tante e se cambiamo il nostro comportamento potrebbe spaventarli," I said, (Pietro, you need to understand that the twins have been through so much and if we change our behavior it might scare them,)

"I nostri nemici li spaventeranno piu di noi, Matteo. Lo sto facendo per proteggerli," Pietro said, (Our enemies will scare them more than we will, Matteo. I'm doing this to protect them,)

"So che lo sei, ma cambiare il nostro comportamento li spaventera e potremmo perdere la loro fragile fiducia in noi," I pleaded, (I know you are but changing our beahvior will scare them and we might lose their fragile trust in us,)

"Non possiamo perdere la loro fiducia, Pietro. Avremo bisogno che si fidino di noi per quello che sta arrivando," Sebastiano said, (We can't lose their trust in us, Pietro. We're going to need them to trust us for what's coming,)

"Bene. Comportati come al solito, ma sottilmente sii piu cauto e consapevole di chi c'e intorno ai gemelli in ogni momento," Pietro declared, (Fine. Behave as usual but subtlety be more cautious and aware of who is around the twins at all times,)
