I was stuck in the library, surrounded by endless shelves of books.

I glanced up at the clock, feeling the weight of the hours passing by. My friend Icarus looked up at me, questioning my restlessness.

I sighed, tired of the monotonous routine of reading day in and day out. "I need a change," I declared, setting down my book and draining the lukewarm coffee in my cup before setting it aside.

Without waiting for a response, I sprang to my feet, determined to break free from the confines of the library.

Ignoring Icarus's warnings to stay indoors, I bolted down the stairs and burst out the front door, with him close behind.

The urge to explore the world outside was irresistible, even if it meant defying my friend's caution.

Icarus may have wanted to protect me, but I couldn't resist the call of adventure beckoning me beyond the library walls.

It has been a couple of weeks, and I have settled in nicely here.

Fern and I have been growing closer; we spend time together during her free time. I recently had to go to Isaac's clinic for another test to ensure everything is okay.

Thankfully, he informed me that I passed all the tests, and I am actually doing much better than he originally anticipated at this point.

"Slow down, Abby. You need to go back inside," Icarus called after me as I kept running down the cobblestone, my bare feet feeling the warmth.

People stared at me as if I were some wild animal as I passed them. I let out a laugh, going faster as I hit the grass finally, slowing down to breathe.

Icarus shook his head. "That's what you get, you mad woman. Adonis said to stay within the pack house," I scrunched up my nose at his words.

"I think not," I said, putting my hands on my hips and looking at him. He came closer with his hands out.

I smiled mischievously as I turned away before he got a hold of me. 'If it's a chase, then let it be,' I thought to myself as I took off running again.

Closing my eyes as I picked up my pace, I jumped and shifted into my wolf, allowing me to run faster.

I reveled in the feeling of the air rushing through my fur as I sprinted through the woods, leaving the sounds of Icarus behind me.

Dodging fallen trees and leaping over logs, I felt a sense of freedom and exhilaration.

Suddenly, my peaceful moment was interrupted by the presence of a large grey wolf. Despite the tension in the air, I noticed Adonis's scent.

His growls only fueled my determination as I carefully maneuvered around him, testing his boundaries.

With a daring move to my left, I managed to evade him momentarily, finding myself in a clearing filled with vibrant flowers and lush grass.

However, my escape was short-lived as I soon found myself at the mercy of Adonis, his warning growls signaling the end of my playful chase.

As I gazed up at him towering above me, I braced myself for what would come next.

Seeing the expression in his eyes as he steps back, I mentally groan and shift away, "you can't keep me inside, Adonis, it's rude," I groan.

Icarus rushes into the clearing with two handfuls of clothes and throws me a shirt.

I glance down and feel a blush of embarrassment as I take them while Adonis shifts. Putting on the shirt, I avoid looking at him while he changes.

"You could have been hurt," Adonis says a bit angrily. I cross my arms in defense. "But I wasn't, and as you can see, I'm intact," I reply confidently.

Adonis watches me before meeting my gaze, "Look, it's easier for you to listen to me about this," he says. "I understand your desire for adventure, but running off everywhere is not safe." He speaks sternly, as if I were a child, which irritates me a bit.

"I wouldn't have run if Icarus hadn't tried to whisk me away and bring me back inside as if I were a house cat," I say through gritted teeth, looking at Icarus, who remains silent during our exchange.

I turn back to Adonis, pointing at him, "I haven't seen you in two weeks, so you can't just say that," I accuse, causing him to scoff and cross his arms, "I'm an Alpha, Abby, in case you haven't realized yet," he states.

Amid a brief silence, I softly muttered "Yeah, whatever" before beginning to stroll away, paying no mind to Adonis's taunts about my fighting skills.

Leading the way back to the packhouse, I could sense them trailing behind me.

Disregarding Adonis's attempts to get my attention, I reached my room and closed the door with a sigh.

Gazing out the window, I observed the surroundings and couldn't help but feel a tinge of doubt creeping in about my place among these people.

I figured it could just be a rough day playing tricks on me.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky with hues of black and blue.

I had skipped dinner, too caught up in my thoughts to bother with food.

Alone in my dimly lit bedroom, I wallowed in my melancholy until a chilling scream pierced the silence.

My heart pounded in my chest as I leaped from the bed, adrenaline coursing through my veins.

Peering out the window, I saw a crowd gathered outside, their murmurs barely audible.

But it was the pair of glowing yellow eyes staring back at me from the darkness of the forest that sent shivers down my spine.

I couldn't tear my gaze away, a primal fear gripping me as the unknown presence watched me.

Suddenly, a loud bang on the door shattered the eerie moment, and I screamed in terror. The door swung open to reveal Fern, her expression filled with concern.

"I am worried"; Fern came over and rubbed my shoulders.

"Are you alright?" she asked while I pushed my fear aside.

"Yeah, what happened outside?" I asked, gesturing to the window behind me.

Fern sighed sadly, "There was an attack; we lost one of our members today." I gasped softly, absorbing the news.

"What?! Do you know who could have done it?" She sadly shook her head.

I pondered for a moment and stated, "I saw eyes over there," as I walked to the window and pointed in their direction.

Fern joined me, looking where the eyes had vanished. "Are you sure you saw eyes over there? We have high security," she asked cautiously.

I nodded, focusing on the spot. "Yes, I'm sure. They were yellow eyes, and they were looking at me as if they were looking through me," I recounted.

"As if they knew me," I finished, pausing to look at Fern, who appeared to be observing me as I spoke.

Fern stayed quiet with a gaze that was unreadable to me, as she looked back out the window.
