Chapter Eight

"P-p-pregnant!" Eva yelled in shock. She couldn't be pregnant, she had enough complications in her life. Perhaps she dreamed of having a child in a future, but with Palo? A man who couldn't love her after two years of dating her? A man that had fraudulent detectives showing up at her home? And frequently had altercations? A mysterious man who couldn't even let her into his personal world...a possible crook....gang member? No, he definitely wasn't the ideal candidate.

"Ma'am are you okay?" The doctor asked, she could probably see the evident panic on Eva's face. Or perhaps it was the choppy short breaths she was releasing that gave hint to her impending panic attack.

"How far along do you think I am?" Eva asked, attempting to reign in her shock.

Pregnant. Pregnant. Pregnant.

"I won't be able to determine that until I bring you in for an ultrasound, I can schedule you for an appointment if you'd like?" The doctor offered cautiously.

"Y-y-yes."

Eva was mentally attempting to track down the last time she'd been sexual active. A month ago? Or was it two? Hell, her and Palo were at it like rabbits all the time when they were together, she could hardly track down when they may have slipped up and forgotten a condom. It happened frequently, the two never worried though. She swore Palo was the freaking god of pull-outs.

Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

She was on the verge of banging her head into the wall when the doctor placed a gentle hand on her shoulder.

"Sometimes a baby can be a bit of a shock. But trust me when I tell you, and I normally don't lend my advice, there's not greater love than that of your own child."

Eva absentmindedly placed her hand on her stomach. She wouldn't get an abortion. She simple couldn't do that. She wouldn't abandon or get rid of her own child because things were rough. That would make her exactly like her parents.

That thought seemed to shake her out of the impending depression she was sinking in. She'd do right by her child. She would love it with everything in her.

Looking the woman in her eyes, Eva offered her a small smile, "Thank you."

The woman just smiled, "Okay Eva so the soonest I can get you in is three days from now. So Thursday, at twelve. I'll be prescribing you with some pills to help with your morning sickness, which I suspect won't last for too much longer as you're probably nearing the end of your first trimester. But that all depends on how long your bun has been cooking. I'll also be prescribing you some prenatal vitamins, which you should start taking immediately."

"Okay," Eva said, still processing everything the doctor said.

It was hard to compute information over the roar of her repeated thoughts.

Baby. Baby. Baby.

-.-.-.-.-..-..-.-

The more Eva mulled over it, the more excited she started to feel. She had created another life; one that she would cherish and love for the rest of her life. It was her baby. The love that quelled in her heart for her baby that was growing inside of her was impossible to dwell.
