Johnny's P.O.V

I was sitting in the living room with Lance and smoking a cigarette while we talked. "So how are you and the misses, Johnny." I took a drag and breathed out the smoke. "We actually split up a few months ago." Lance nodded and started to smoke a cigarette, too. "Listen Johnny. There's something that I didn't want to say back at the restaurant in front of Christine. I nodded and put out my cigarette. "Christine...isn't like you and I." I looked at him confused. What was he talking about? "Um, Ok. What's wrong with her?" Lance sighed and leaned back. "She's deaf Johnny. We found out a couple of months after she turned three. She can't hear a damned thing!" My heart stopped a bit. I felt bad for what I said to her at the restaurant now, and it explained why she couldn't hear me. I looked at the doorway to see her standing there and looking at me. Lance turned around and smiled at her. He started to do sign language and she signed back to him.  Christine walked in and sat down in front of the TV to watch it and I looked at Lance. "She's very down about the suicide of her mother and I'm taking it hard, too. I mean, if you had a daughter what would you do?" I thought about it and shrugged. Lance sighed and I heard the first sound from her. She laughed and it made me jump a little. Lance got up and left the room and I looked at her on the floor. Her hair was the dark black hair of Lance's, but longer. Way longer! Then she turned around and looked at me. We locked eyes for a few minutes before Lance walked in with a bottle of wine. She turned around and faced the TV again. Lance sat down and uncorked it. "You want any?" He asked. I shook my head and said, "No. I think I'm done for the day." He nodded and I fixed my glasses. Then the I heard his phone go off and he rolled his eyes and answered it. "Excuse me." Lance left the room and right when he did she turned around and looked at me again. It wasn't a glare, and it wasn't a go to hell look. It was just an innocent look. Then I said, "Hi." Her eyes flew down to my lips and I saw hers move. She gave a wave and then I said, "I'm Johnny." She looked into my eyes and she stood up and walked towards me. She sat beside me and then Lance came back. "Shit!" I heard him yell. He walked in and sat down in the spot he was in before. I looked at her and saw that he was in before. "What happened, man?" I asked him. He sighed and said, "Johnny, I have a business trip to do. It's all the way in France." I looked at Christine and saw that she looked concerned. I looked at Lance and he was smoking again. "I have to leave first thing in the morning, and I have no one to watch Christine." I rested my elbows on my knees and I put my hands together. Then I thought and said, "I can watch her. I mean I'm gonna be in L.A. for awhile." He smiled. "Thanks! I'll pay you for hour trouble." I shook my head. "No, no. It's fine." I looked at Christine and saw that she was all up into the TV. Let's hope that I know what I'm doing."
