A baby is born
And a sapling appears.
The child, like the tree,
Grows tall over the years.
Young adult chases dreams
And there go a few leaves.
Aging hearts settle down
As the branches run free.
A motionless babe arrives,
And a thousand leaves fall.
True love retreats;
And a thousand more fall.
Miserable, lonely, sick:
Entire branches fall.
Heart stops beating for the last time--
The final leaf falls.
