Chapter 9:

(3rd person / Emily's POV)

The cold wind flies passed Emily as she and Crystal fly to New York City. 'Please let us mike it there on time to help them,' Emily thinks.

Emily blinks and suddenly everything around her goes black. Before she could even start to wonder what happen, light flows her vison and after a few moments everything starts to focus around her. She looks around her, noticing right away that she was no longer on Crystals feathered back but standing in a familiar room. The room looked like her old bedroom that she had when she was 14 years old, when her parents were still alive.

The wall was a creamy off-white color with black and purple swirly designs all over then. On one wall was her old dark oak wood dresser with a door next to it on the right side, that lead to her walk-in closet. On the other side of the dresser was I big widow that looked out to her old backyard. On the other side of the room was her bed with its dark purple cover and pillows, with two night stands also made of dark oak wood on either side of the bed. There was a girl sitting on the bed that looked the same age of Emily, that looked like she was waiting for Emily. The girl was reading a book that was on old Norse Mythology, after a few seconds the girl looks up from her book and looks to Emily. Emily takes a step back in shock when she sees the girls eye's a bright stormy blue with ember flacks mixed in it.

"Ember..." whispers Emily in shock.

"Hello Emily," Ember softly says.

"How... How many I able to see you?" Emily questions, "Where are we?"

"We are in your mind. Your subconscious created this room for us because it's where we feel safe. We're face to face because we need to talk if we are truly going to help the others take down Loki." Ember replies.

She then pats the spot next to her on the bed, wanting Emily sit next to her. After a moment of hesitation, Emily moves over to the bed and sits down next to Ember.

Taking a deep breath to calm her nerves; Emily asks, "What do we need to talk about?"

"About us," Ember starts out, "for the last 17 years you have been confused about what I am. You know that everyone has called me your alter ego, but you've had this feeling that they were wrong and you've right. I'm not your alter ego at all."

"If you aren't my alter ego then what are you?" Emily asks.

"I am you, I'm just the more protective and temperamental side of your mind. When we were experimented on 17 years old, during one of those tests they somehow split us," Ember explains, "in the end we have always been the same."

"So, we have been the same. But when I've lose control and you took over, you've hurt people that are close to us. You have even killed other agents." Emily says.

"Yes, I did. But there are good reasons that I killed those agents and I not the best reason that I hurt the others." Ember says.

"Why? What are your reasons?" Emily asks almost desperately, for she had always wanted to know why she did those things.

"The agents that we killed were a threat and danger to Rosa, Clint, and everyone that we care deeply about. I know that we are the reason that the one's we care about got burned but I never meant for it to happened. As you know, fire is a very delicate element. It can provide warmth and protection, but it can also burn and destroy if not controlled. When you lost control, I lost control. I never meant to burn Clint and Rosa." Ember explains.

Emily is quiet as she thinks about everything that Ember said. She remembers when she looked up the information of the agents that she had killed. She remembered how she found out that those agents had been double agents and a traitor. They had targeted herself, her sister, friends, and everyone important at SHIELD. She remembers how it was easier for her to control her ice powers but still sometime would lose control. Her fire powers were even harder unless Ember was in control. She understood how hard it was to control her gifts.
