This theme was probably my favorite one so far and is going to be very hard to beat. I again I got to know more about you wonderful people who all share a common interest in poetry and expressing emotions through words. As I type the intro to this result page, tears are forming in my eyes because of the power of words. I felt your tenacity and passion burning inside of each word. I felt hope and equality ringing as the words rolled off of my tongue as I spoke them out loud. I hope to everyone reading this, by the end of this chapter you will learn more, understand more, and love more, regardless of where your stance is.

"In the end, anti-black, anti-female, and all forms of discrimination are equivalent to the same thing -- anti-humanism."

That boy you saw with tears in his eyes?
He was told that men don't cry His mother gave him a slap across his cheek,
Told him to be strong like a big boy should be

When a girl is born, her wings are clipped,
Her mouth is taped and her freedom stripped
Despite her protests, her desperate cries,
She is still unable to fly

Gender inequality is a problem in our world,
Why should a boy be any different from a girl?
It's not only important to stand up for your rights,
Together as a race we must fight

A boy can be beaten, abused and mishandled,
It's not only women's rights that have been trampled
Expectations on men are higher if you compare,
Failing to meet them, they wouldn't dare

A girl child is underestimated, not known for her power,
But one day she'll prove herself and her gifts she'll shower
No more will her intelligence and capability be undermined, All through the land it's her light that will shine

Gender inequality is a problem in our world,
Why should a boy be any different from a girl?
A woman can be strong, intelligent and brave,
And a man has the right to be afraid

One day the girl child will spread her wings and fly,
One day it won't be a sin when a boy child cries.

Comment: I am a very strong advocate for gender equality so I loved that the message of your poem was about that. At the same time even though gender inequality is a hot and current topic that is talked about often you still took it from I guess an "unpopular perspective" when writing about how some men can be scared to show or have emotions. All the time you see and hear women protesting and trying to take down stereotypes of women but never men really fighting down stereotypes and social barriers. So I liked how you wrote about that and REALLY talk about the equality of both genders and the mistrials they BOTH go through.

120 dollars,
Is too much for a child's allowance.
120 donuts,
Is too many to eat in 1 day.
120 people,
Is too many to get to know in a month.
120 times being bullied throughout 12 years of education,
Is probably an underestimate. 120 cuts on your body,
Is too many.
120 times throwing up in the bathroom, because Susan told Sally, who told Brittany you looked "thicc",
Is too many.
120 nights wide awake feeling misunderstood and alone,
Is too many.
120 times being told to suck it up and deal with it, when your psyche is crumpling like a leaf at the end of November,
Is too many.
120 days is more than enough,
To plan it.
120 deep cuts is far more than you'll get to, before the blood loss hits you.
120 meters is high enough to jump.
120 bullets are expensive,
but it only takes one.
120 pills is usually more than you'll need.
120 seconds hanging from a rope is enough time.
But 120 seconds isn't enough time to understand why,
And 120 days is more than enough time to plan the funeral, But 120 years isn't enough time to heal.
120% of our attention and love is what we need to try to give, Because 120 people commit suicide every day.
120 people dead,
Is a massacre.
Let's start acting like it.

Comment: I really don't have that much to say it was very very very good. Your poem was a favorite from the beginning also one of the first to actually follow the directions and write what I as asking for. Your poem was formatted in an excellent way to convey the message and I really really liked it. Besides this poem you have written many more excellent poem and I encourage all of you guys to check out his poetry book! Well done.

why do we live in a world
where it's okayto suppress people for being themselves?
for doing things they can't help?what makes it okay
to hate on people that aren't hurting you?
we're just out here trying to live our lives
but we can't we're always in hiding
scared to be a person
are we not allowed those rights?
I am done
with your homophobic comments
and the looks of disapproval
I am done with being scared to enjoy things and being unsure who will let me
just let us live in a world where we're okay
where we're valid to be ourselves
maybe I've found shelter a place where I can be myself
but what about the others?
what about the people
constantly surrounded by judgement and disappointment 'you're disgusting'
'it's just a phase'
'that's not normal'
how do you think it would feel
to be shunned by society
for love?
even in my darkest moments love has kept me going
been there
something for me to hold on to
how do you think it would feel
to not have love available to you to constantly be in a cloud of darkness with nothing to stabilize you
to be drowning, with nothing to pull you up
so think about that
next time you open your mouth to make a rude comment about us

Comment: One word. DAMNNNN. This is the poem that made me tear up, the emotions that came off of your words and into me was unbelievable. Even though I am not part of that that community, I felt something when you said, "how do you think it would feel to be shunned by society for love?" And it hit me. "Even in my darkest moments love has kept me going been there something for me to hold on to how do you think it would feel to not have love available to you." The answer is I would be dead if I did not feel loved or wanted. A basic human need is not only food or water, its love. No one can live happy knowing not a single soul loves them. It's impossible. And many lives have been taken because of that feeling that they're just a waste of space that no one wants ever will ever love.
