My heart flattened painfully
when I saw those eyes staring back at me through the silvery air shimmering before me;
cracks crawl along the pavement behind me;
the gulf tilted like a crater on an axle,
a pendulum of swaying souls screaming bloody murder, digitally flickering, ticking, curling, from circling hands wiping their face.
A convergence in the between on either side, the before and after and in the middle those eyes, behind the silver veil, refracted, the same jaundice as mine
